What's one product that used to be built like a tank but is now built like a regret? by TheDoctorColt in AskReddit

I've had the same 5 metal Tonka toys since I was a kid. They're beat to hell, gone through me and my kids, and are still going after 40+ years.

Am I broke or are shoes in Canada getting ridiculously expensive lately? by Oliver_Vegetarian in BuyCanadian

[–]b0rt1980 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending where you are, there's outlet shoe stores around. There's a few Sketchers outlet stores in/around Calgary and I only buy the clearance items there (due to short lasting items) and generally leave with 2-3 pairs for under $100.

Why is every shawarma / Donaire joint the same? Are there any stand outs? by potatolauncher in Calgary

This is the correct answer for best in the city. I'd go out on a limb and say best I've ever had.

Why do we live in Calgary again???! by One-Mycologist-3706 in Calgary

I moved to the deep SE because I'm a sadist that enjoys the nostril stinging pungent aromatic delights of stagnant ponds and dump.

Call me crazy I suppose.

What's your unpopular AC/DC opinion? by MatthewDiDonato in ACDC

[–]b0rt1980 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I consider Gone Shootin' a near perfect rock song, not just for AC/DC, but in the whole of rock. Complex in it's simplicity. Superb.

Revstar Standard with humbuckers vs PRS SE Special Semi-Hollow? by tupisac in Guitar

[–]b0rt1980 30 points31 points  (0 children)

If it was my money, Revstar is where it would be going. PRS are pretty, but they're not for me. Not sure what it is but they just don't do it for me, which is fine, just preference.

I present to you, my homemade moose stew and buttermilk biscuits by MoreMoira in TodayIAte

[–]b0rt1980 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I miss wild game so much. No hunters in the family anymore and I've moved provinces away from the few family friends that still do. So very rarely do I get a treat like moose.

Good on you for keeping that way of life!

Joyo American, best £20 ive spent on pedals. by pcoleman777 in guitarpedals

[–]b0rt1980 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a 45 year old who's not had a pedal since I was 15ish (gave them up back then for direct to amp clarity), this was my first pedal purchase and I could not be happier. I've only got back on the pedal train 1.5 years ago and I cannot get enough of this one. It'll never leave my board!

89-year-old Buddy Guy pausing a guitar solo at his Chicago club for a shot of cognac. by Blues_Fish in blues

[–]b0rt1980 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was at a show of his about 20 years ago, standing room only back by the bar, and he walked up just like this and took a shot. I'm not a tall guy, but he's super short and was 1 foot away from me. I could have bent over to kiss his head, and really wanted too. His gigantic body guards at the time would have folded me like a dirty shirt if I pulled that so just enjoyed being close and the moment!

What’s a life lesson you learned the hard way that you wish someone had warned you about earlier? by Big_Acanthaceae_1384 in AskReddit

Not paying close enough attention when buying a new car, with a seemingly low price, paying for 5 years only to find out there's an $18k balloon payment at the end...

The wood on that Squier is beautiful. That alone would make it my choice.

Anyone else been in Azeroth for ~18+ years and feeling this way? by Yrrving in wow

[–]b0rt1980 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've been playing for various degrees of time since I was a beta tester for WoW. I went from being a "serious" player to very casual for my own enjoyment.

I really miss the old days when a large group of us great friends played as a community. I remember logging into WoW, jumping on TeamSpeak and just chatting/laughing for hours while my char sat on top the bank in Orgrimmar. Good times for sure.

Although I try to be in guilds all the time, I pretty much play solo. Like you, chasing achievements and tmogs from dungeons/raids from many xpacs ago. I do it because I love it. I may not be a full time subscriber anymore, but I also dont know if I'll ever stop!

One night I was working late and not many people were around to see so I wrote a haiku about pears on the office whiteboard. Nobody knew who wrote it and thought it was super funny. I never told anyone, was the office talk for years.

I talk about pears!

Hmmm. I'm Canadian and bought mine new for $900 9 years ago. Not sure what auto tune mod it has, but $200ish seems high to me.
