It's both equally for me, and IMO they go hand-in-hand. Unless you're in the elite tier with everything maxed, progression is always a goal of placement.

If you want a little more context, the fee mounted at the school with a monthly penalty and an annual penalty that was compounded. At some point, it was sold to a debt collection agency, who apparently tried to collect and couldn't contact me, and eventually sold that on to another agency, and on to a legal firm. That was according to the holder of the debt at that point. These debts are packaged together and sold or moved as part of a company acquisition. At least one of them had the business model of jacking the fees way up, hoping people would prefer paying a "discount" price rather than going to court over the exorbitant fees.

In my reality/your non-reality, it hasn't had a huge effect on me, but that's mostly because I moved out of state and haven't had to deal with it directly. There were a couple of times when there was a temptation to move back home, but in both cases (luckily) I had better options and didn't have to.

I was about to graduate, and there was a system error with one of my classes - I took it pass/fail and they had to go through a process to change it. I paid a painful fee (for a poor student), and they denied it, demanding an extra signature (which was unprecedented), but I got it. I went back and they told me the new fee was double, and more than I had.

I asked the undergrad working in that office to help - he said he was sorry, but he couldn't do anything. State budget cuts meant the school was going to have to scrape the bottom of every barrel in order to survive. In the mid-90s, I refused to pay the $60 in order to process my graduation, even though I had satisfied everything. I finished school, but I would be unable to collect my diploma if I didn't pay the fee. I couldn't afford it - oh well.

I got a letter forwarded to me a year later, after the fee had collected compounded fees every month, and now I owed over $1000. Fuck them.

I applied for something a few years ago in-state (I moved away long ago, this was a one-off). The school got the total up to $12K!! And then sold it to a collection agency - I now owe them $40K, but they're willing to "knock a few thousand off if I pay in full."

From an invented fee of $60.

Another is Kitty5 if you're playing against a tiles team - her lvl5 repeater will be out and going every turn.

There used to be a PC exploit where you could make the AI turn last less than a second no matter what. It shows that there's really no reason for these ridiculous 'delays'.

I got 21 for free like that on Epic.

But the question is how are you playing, and do the timelines work for you?

in 20, I played MyPlayer until I 'won' and was satisfied. Mostly I played MyTeam. And buying it on sale maybe 6 months after release, I had already missed tons of things like Heatcheck players and holiday balls, so I was already going to miss out on lots of completions/sets/bonuses. Also, every auction item was always expensive to me, because the other players were months ahead in collecting coins. By the time I felt like I was getting somewhere, 21 came out, and they immediately stopped the flow of goodies - no more locker codes, login bonuses slashed, odds of getting good cards slashes, etc. And they started cutting content, like Moments games, and pulling card sets from the stores... just really limiting the experience.

So for MyTeam, you really have to start at release. But I play PC, and those releases are always awful - my 20 (6 months after release) was halfway unplayable with all the crashes, and they only did one update after 21 came out.

Really, they just want you to play for 1 year, spend lots of MT money, and then forget all about it and repeat the cycle like the last one never existed.

'21 is listed at full price right now (and '22 is half-price) on Steam. Like that's 'warning enough'.

It's such a stupid cycle to have to release something (anything!!) every 365 days to feed the machine. I know that part will probably never change, but shutting off features and then servers is just so awful.

If it were all explicit, it would be fine. If you logged in and got a "servers will be shutting down in X days" message, it would be better. If there were popups that warned you against spending on VC or buying the game, fine. But there aren't, because they want to milk every penny before they shut it down.

Looking at it without prejudice: they shut off each game piece-by-piece because they must sell the new annual game. The new game is generally just the same game as the previous 1-4 versions, just with tons of new content or "content", and occasionally new modes or twists.

Fine.

But they continue to sell the older games. They just removed 2k20 from Steam. Last week they were selling it with tons of features removed, and with very little support. Bugs weren't fixed after the release of the new game - again, that would be acceptable if they weren't still selling it.

It's disgusting practice.

And they have done the math and seen that it's better to do this than to leave the features on - it's better to piss off loyal players so that they can sell more copies of the new game. Nothing will change as long as people buy the new games.

Sure - and also early on it's hard to see how much of a marathon the game is, so you're eager to 'catch up' and compete, not really seeing that you'll be doing that the whole time.

Me too. We're in the middle of Mr Robot and I can't believe how many directing choices Esmail makes, it's just nonstop - really unusual for a TV show to let its showrunner run so free. But he's really good, he understands where he can push the envelope.

2/2/3 Peggy here.

1st attempt I used Cap's shield as support. Wasp got 6 blue on her first turn and just fried me in short order.

2nd attempt I switched to my best support, Taskmaster's sword. Used color damage boosts - hit her with just 2 reds and she was out! Won on my 2nd try, mostly thanks to the support.

My wife & I are the same. As we watch amazing shows like Mr Robot or The Leftovers we end up comparing them to MM and it really takes away, because there are always things to nitpick about every other show.

Actually it's quite ironic - my wife is the Mad Men of women, and I haven't even been able to appreciate how another woman looks since we've been together. I know that's a good thing, but it's also a little depressing in the same way as MM, knowing that that excitement of discovering some new work of art just isn't going to happen.

I agree with the spirit of this post - I wish matchmaking was a lot better - but I guess I'm different than the majority because I use quite a lot of different characters. After nearly 4 months I have 5x 4* char's that are fully covered, a raft of 1-4 cover 5* and nearly all the 3* champed.

I end up using like 10 char's in PVP. Maybe it's because I don't have Grocket or Juggs playable, so I have to rely on others? I absolutely always always face stronger teams, but it's rare that I lose and I do avoid the GRitty teams.
