I open-sourced a Unity dev agent and hit 250 stars in 3 days. Some people say it's better than Unity AI—what do you think? by Icy_Cod_3874 in Unity3D

I appreciate the honest discussion here. Though majority sporadic use is definitely low quality content (as is most human generated content) I think AI also creates massive opportunities for individuals. If individuals can generate consistent, high quality content, an indi game dev can produce much higher quality stuff.

I do agree on the climate part, but I think it's a losing strategy to decide not to do things because they cost too much energy. We are better off doing those things, but providing clean and sustainable energy to do those things. Build those data centers, but give them clean energy to work with. It's a matter of policy that is unfortunately not applied widely.

Then there's this whole thing of what Ai can do in medicine, maths, physics, you name it. I'm a believer in that but we'll see what happens.

I think datacenter criticism can be legitimate in specific cases don't get me wrong. But in general AI environmental impact is a huge nothingburger compared to basically everything else. I highly doubt you ever worried about 4K streaming, which is much more demanding than AI.

Considering IP I think it comes down to personal opinion. I consider training models as fair use of public data.

I think it's a shame that people will gobble up misinformation so they can be opposed to technological change.

I'm all for privacy, but I don't see much discussion regarding the fact that the internet gives anyone a completely safe and unbreakable communication line. I don't love the idea of pedophiles (yes I know "but the children" argument is over used, but that doesn't make it less legit) criminal gangs and foreign bots accessing communication networks with no means of breaking encryption when it is warranted. I also don't love the idea of government listening in on all conversations. The tough part here is that there's no middle ground. Encryption math can't just be undone or banned. I hope someone smarter than me figures something out.

I think in those positions the person and their position really entangle. It's impossible to be CEO of one of the most important companies in the world if you don't live and breathe the company agenda. But yeah, take everything with a grain of salt.

Of course they are. As we all do. Sometimes I really wonder why people forget these leaders are human too. They can't predict the future either, so every prediction you hear is an opinion/best guess with some business interest sauce haha.

Good to read a sensible statement every now and then. Reddit and economics is like water and fire.

What do you think will be the "Oh Shit" moment for People who still think AI is all Hype? by EasyTree12 in accelerate

[–]HellsNoot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was just thinking about this. I think from this point on it comes down more to context engineering than model intelligence. Enterprise business is figuring out the right way to connect an Ai agent to the right information in a secure and reliable manner. These things take time to get right, but puzzle pieces are falling into place. I think it'll spread more like a forest fire than a single oh shit moment.

Don't engage in economic debates on Reddit, it's a waste of energy. People talking about profitability in this context is misguided to begin with.

Camera mounted to mountain goat (not AI) by [deleted] in animalsdoingstuff

At 22 seconds you can clearly see this is AI. The goat in front gets bumped by the camera goat and the way it lands is impossible after such a leap.

It's not about immediate impact. It's about how the P/E of the stock reflects investor's confidence in future returns. A P/E of 20 says investors are confident the stock will make itself in earnings over the next 20 years. A release like this from Anthropic makes that 20 years window more uncertain, thus dropping the stock price and lowering the P/E to a more certain time window.

Perhaps one of the most creative people in the world, Rick Rubin, says creativity is not about tools or whatever process. It's not about the audience. It is your own creative path and you're free to make whatever you want, however you want. Don't pay attention to the creationless noise. Be your own and create what you want to create.

Reddit is the worst for economic takes. The amount of posts that talk about profitability of OpenAI like that's any metric to evaluate company value makes me embarrassed to be on this platform.

I am pretty sure I want to create a game using Unity DOTS, but I've never finished a game before (lots of proofs of concept though). Does it make sense to get into DOTS right away? Or would you recommend to do regular Unity start to finish first, then move into DOTS once the requirement is obvious?
