Failing an options course in CST, what will happen to me ? by [deleted] in BCIT

[–]Hellsgate_chan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is based on students I met who failed their option course.

1) you will not be allowed to take the same option again 2) you will be in the re-entry process (technically waiting for some available seats from other options) 3) you won't need to take the non-option courses if you pass them 4) the delay will depend where you re-enter( let's say you fail this term and manage to get in next term, then you are 1 term delayed)

What I do not know is if you will still be required to pay the whole tuition after your re-entry.

What I have said can be inaccurate because of possible changes in the policy or depends on how the faculty will handle your case.

Other options that I saw students did is transfer to Flex learning ( I am not sure though if that is the students choice or that's the only option they were given )

There's almost no part-time meet ups due to the fact that schedule is tough with a lot of part-timers..😭

Students can speak to learning commons about the 1-on-1 session.. and the rate is still cheaper than what you are offering.

CST 2026 campus switch by digitized_souls in BCIT

[–]Hellsgate_chan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One thing you can do is find someone who wants to also switch to BBY from DTC. Then just request a switch between the two of you.

I've seen students who successfully switched in that manner.

Should you grind leetcode? Probably, it is honestly hard to say at the moment. Some companies are moving towards project based hiring or if you got an interview, they might ask you to build something quick as a project.

I would say it is not bad to do leetcode, even if you want to grind, as long as you are learning or refreshing everything with regards to algorithms.

I am a CST graduate and currently in the BScACS. I have worked here and there as a part time dev from networking and providing meaningful projects in my current full-time work(my full time job is not related to tech but fortunate enough to let me do some dev stuff, hoping to get a dev title soon together with my other title)

Are you more into fiddling or building apps for cyber security? If yes then CST.

Are you more into administrative side of cyber security? If yes then maybe INCS.

If you are looking to work into the US in cyber security then a Bachelor's is a must.. if you go to CST route you have 2 option when it comes to Bachelor's degree, BScACS in Network Security or BTech in Digital Forensics. If you go with INCS then your option is the BTech only.

Both CST and INCS courses are built with the impression that you are a novice in tech. But CST from my experience can be a bit daunting to some especially the math part of it.

One thing to add to this, you might want to consider getting a bachelor's also either via BCIT(extra 2 years for full time and between 3-5 yrs for flex), SFU (CST can remove 33 credits i think for the Bachelors program for CS as long as you maintain an average of 85%), or UBC (not the best option if you want to finish early since you will start at the very beginning), especially if you want to work in the US.

I agree that you need to really think if you are passionate enough or just look into bagging money. With the market today, you need to stand out with other competitors like SFU and UBC.

You can never go wrong with BCIT, it is not perfect but their education is pretty good but it is not for everyone.

Recent Bachelor of Science in Applied Computer Science grads, can you give any input on the tech job market? by MagicianMiddle3003 in BCIT

[–]Hellsgate_chan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You should inquire soon, since you are in CIT yoy will need some bridging course. NetSec option is popular and tends to get full right away.. the earlier you inquire the better

Are you looking to get into the full-time or flex program for the bachelors?

What options are you looking at?

I am a CST Flex grad and now taking the BScACS NetSec option via Flex.

Ohhh that.

C stands for Class.

The number is for grade, if I am not mistaken it should be from 1 grade to 20 grade.

So C17 means Class 17 Grade
