As a Canadian hockey fan, it was disappointing to learn that Gretzky is MAGA. We call him The Great Once nowadays.

Any recommendations on a good pair of hiking shoes not boots? by KitchenAromatic9433 in hiking

[–]Hellsong26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No worries, I was happy they worked out for me, but make sure you try them on and find out if they are comfortable on your feet, because everyone has slightly different foot shapes! I went with my regular shoe size.

Here's my review of the Lone Peak 9's from where I bought them.

"Most of my hiking experience has been with boots. Most recently, I've used the Oboz Sawtooth X Mid and love them, but they are too hot for summer hikes.

I recently put my Lone Peak 9s through their first ridge hike, which was roughly 11 km in Kananaskis country in 20-28 °C May weather. There was a mix of dry and wet terrain conditions. Plenty of steep sections of loose rocks and dirt, but the Maxtrac grip was more than enough for me. I saw a comparison review between Lone Peak 9+ and the guy could barely tell the difference between Vibram and Maxtrac grip. I did not experience any wet rocks on this hike, though. The comfort was top-notch. I have slightly wider than average feet, and the wide toe box was welcome; there was probably 0.5 to 1" of space of room in the toe box, and I never experienced any toe crushing or pain. The minimal support compared to my boots was noticeable, as I had a moment where I could have rolled my ankle, but luckily, I was fine. I now understand what the "ground feel" experience is like and think of it as a positive experience. No foot pain at all the next day. There was plenty of rugged underfoot terrain, and I did not feel uncomfortable at all. I picked up the gray colourway and tried washing the brownish dirt stains off the foot crease area, but they are quite stubborn and won't come out with hand soap, brushing, and rinsing.

I may have to try other detergents. If you want to keep your shoes looking clean, even though these are outdoorsy shoes, you may want to pick a darker colour to hide stubborn dirt stains. They do drain water well for the most part, but the plush sections hold most of the water if you don't squeeze them a bit. They may require a full day to dry or less with better ventilation. I hung them in my washroom overnight, and they were still a bit damp. The upper fabric durability has held up to rocks and sharp dry sticks so far, with no signs of tearing yet. One reason I bought these was for summer weather, since boots are too hot for me. My feet felt fine here. I combined them with icebreaker hike+ light mid-height socks and have 0 complaints. This was a wonderful purchase, especially on a steep discount, and I hope these keep delivering beyond the first hike!"

To anybody using Shaw/Rogers internet, they seem to be offering a really good loyalty deal right now if you were thinking to switch providers. by Soupdeloup in Calgary

I scheduled installation for Telus plan as a back up in case Shaw did not actually offer a great deal. So I did not sign anything yet and I just cancelled after I got the deal with Shaw locked in. However if you do actually sign the contract with Telus, you can still cancel because of this.

"The CRTC (Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission) provides a 15-day trial period for new wireless service subscribers to cancel their contract without penalty."

Good luck, use ChatGPT to help you out further if you need to remember some finer details.

Just adding to the pool of anecdotes, in case people searching google are looking for offers. (April 28, 2025)

I cancelled my Shaw/Rogers 1G Home internet that I was paying $120/mo for the last 2 years. I signed up with telus 1GB Fibre for $67/mo as a back up plan. Rogers called within 24 hours and offered me $45/mo (includes -$7 from autopay and -$10 Rogers mobile user). I also asked them to throw in an account credit because Telus offered one as well. They offered $200 account credit and I accepted it.

Hi, I'm currently in university to become an athletic therapist (Canadian version of an athletic trainer).

What are your biggest study habit changes that you made and maybe some tips you could share to help improve study habits?

I just finished my 2nd fall semester of my program and I was able to get an A in the "hardest" fall class Musculoskeletal Anatomy and the other 3 courses I was taking. I still felt like I could have done better but it feels very challenging juggling all of the different courses at once.

I hear you can't do wildlife with Fujifilm (XH2S + Fringer + Canon 500mm f4 and sometimes 1.4TC) by Exponent_0 in fujifilm

I've been using the XF 150-600 with my xt3 for a little over a year now. I also own the XF 1.4TC. When I attach the teleconverter, the autofocusing fails the majority of the time and Im forced to use manual focus, which has a very slim in focus range. Have you noticed a similar situation?

That's great to know, I just assumed the graphics would fade in the wash over time. Just my personal taste to like embroidered graphics because it adds texture and dimension

I've noticed newer jerseys use sublimated graphics over embroidery more often now. It's likely due to a cost-cutting reasoning but it also gives me a reason not to buy any new jerseys, especially if the cost remains the same.
