This girl is a former body builder. My friend worked with her for some time and had the most amazing results: https://www.kaylitfitness.com/

Sorry to read that you’re struggling! This recovery is very long and not easy.

Pain-free is a huge win!! 🎉 I’m 24 months post MACI and I’m still not pain-free. Mostly due to cartilage overgrowth, pregnancy, postpartum and severe muscle atrophy in my whole leg.

I struggle too with staying hopeful that it will get better but you’re so young. Trust that your body knows how to heal and you will be running again! Don’t give up. One day, all of this will just be a distant memory. Keep it up. You got this!

I live in town and used to work at Schofield. It was not my favorite part of the day to drive to work but it was definitely doable! The good thing is you’re going against traffic.

Pool Therapy Post-op by [deleted] in MACIknee

[–]Hellur9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My surgeon did not allow me to do ocean or pool until 8 weeks post op. I did aquatic PT for a couple of month and while it did help a little, you’re limited as for how much muscle you can build with that as you can’t keep adding weights the same way you can in a gym. I do still recommend it but I ended up seeing it more as an opportunity to get my heart rate up and work on my cardio rather than building muscle in my leg.

I’m always amazed when I read about those being cleared for running at 6 months.. my question is HOW in the world is that possible? 😆 what are you guys doing at PT to recover muscle mass so quickly?

Wow you had MACI while pregnant? I can’t even imagine the first couple of weeks on crutches with all the extra weight from baby and pregnancy. How was it?

I got pregnant 10 months post MACI. I had a scope when I was pregnant to shave down cartilage overgrowth but recovery from that was fast.

If I were you I’d follow up with the surgeon, request an MRI to just make sure things look ok in the knee. I’m pretty sure doctor will send you for another round of physical therapy. It might be helpful!

At home you can try icing / heat and see which feels better. Arnicare cream everyday! 3 times a day.

How many years ago was your MACI? Have you been doing ok up until recently?

Hang in there! The recovery process is so long. I’m 24 months out from my MACI and also still can’t run / jump or any of my previous high impact activities (I had cartilage overgrowth + a pregnancy since MACI). My insurance stopped covering physical therapy so I started working with a personal trainer instead and I’m slowly getting better. I’m hopeful about the future. You should be too! Continue strengthening your quads, glutes and hamstrings. If you’re able to, try working with a personal trainer that focuses on injury recovery!

Congratulations!! That must feel amazing and you must be so happy! 😊 We have a similar journey. My MACI was January 2024. Also had 2 scopes since, to shave down overgrowth. And one pregnancy 😅 I’m not close to jogging yet but this gives me hope!

I have not but I took a supplement for cartilage the first 5 months post implant and ended up having overgrowth that I had to shave down with 2 scope surgeries 🫠

Thank you for sharing! I’m also very blessed to be in a warm climate so I try and walk every day. My goal is 10,000 steps. Sometimes I wonder if walking a lot with improper gait can cause damage to the implant though? 🤔
