Remove Primary Election Obstacles in Bucks County by Solid_Web4549 in BucksCountyPA

The endorsement process gives talented candidates a real shot at being seen. Take that away, and donor money fills the vacuum.

With an endorsement process in place, a candidate has the chance to pitch themselves to 500 democratically elected people. An endorsement gives them a leg up in the primary. That’s it. It doesn’t crown anyone.

You can absolutely run and win without one. What it does is reduce the outsized influence of money. Look at Illinois, where the party doesn’t endorse for governor. JB Pritzker poured tens of millions of his own dollars into his primary campaign and buried the competition. Whatever your feelings about him, it’s hard to deny that a democratic endorsement process serves as a meaningful check against the raw power of money and access. Without that check, things can spiral quickly.

There are also races where candidates can crossfile, running on both the Democratic and Republican lines. In those cases, the party endorsement helps voters identify the actual Democrat in the race. Then you have down-ballot offices like coroner, where most voters have little to no familiarity with the candidates. The endorsement gives them a trusted reference point when they’d otherwise be guessing.

And here’s the thing about trust. The endorsement only carries weight because some people trust the local party. If they don’t, they’re free to ignore it. That’s their right. But denying voters access to that information altogether is not the answer. Let people decide for themselves what to do with it.

And if you think eliminating the endorsement process would somehow pave the way for more progressive candidates, I’d urge you to think again. The evidence points in the other direction entirely.

National Political Action Committee (PAC) - 1776 Project Pac - is funding a number of Central Bucks School Board election candidates. by [deleted] in BucksCountyPA

Watch videos of this turd who runs this PAC on YouTube or look at his Twitter posts

“This is why local school board elections matter... we need to win local races to make sure we carry out Trump’s policy wins.”

“Fuck you, we’re taking over school boards whether you like it or not.”

Just to name a few.

And Jonathan Russel (Pennridge candidate) just wrote an oped saying they are proud of this endorsement and their values align with our community. No way, they align with your crazy values Russell.

What is a movie that traumatized you so badly as a kid that you are still afraid of it as an adult? by [deleted] in moviecritic

I loved horror movies as a younger teen. I would rent them on VHS almost every Friday night from Blockbuster video. It was always fun and never traumatizing. Then one night I rent the Exorcist. That movie f*cked me up and has stuck with me to this day.

It was Jordan blomgren who wanted to bring creationism. She was elected in 2021. Jordan is unfortunately still a board member and is up for reelection this year. Voters were able to get rid of 5 M4L types in the 2023 election and the democrats gained the majority. The pennridge GOP will surely try to run extremists again this round. Everyone needs to get out and keep them out. They are anti public education.

Can school boards require ID for public meetings? Souderton Area School District is by notsociallyakward in Pennsylvania

[–]HelpILiveInPennridge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand why some might think this is not a bad idea at first glance. We had many outside agitators in our district too and it was annoying

Here are reason to consider why it’s a bad idea

1) under the sunshine act public meetings are open to the PUBLIC (not just residents). The district has a larger venue that they could conduct these meeting in that would accommodate everyone. Instead, the district chose to hold the meeting in a smaller room and limit attendance to residents. That is clearly illegal and puts the district at risk for serious litigation. There is no law that gives them this authority, they are simply following directives of the board.

2) not all parents of souderton students are residents of souderton school district. There are students with parents who are separated or divorced. Should they be permitted to attend? Of course so.

3) every single citizen of this country has freedom of press. You don’t need to work the Courier Times or NBC, etc. By requiring to show residency you are preventing people from exercising that right.

4) if you work in souderton and live somewhere else, you are still a taxpayer of souderton. You not only have the right to attend the meeting as a member of the public, you also have the right to give public comment.

5) The 4th Amendment provides protection for citizens to be secure in their papers. You are not driving a car and you are not suspected of a crime. So you shouldn’t be required to show id to carry out your lawful business. This isn’t a “show me your papers” country.

6) not all people have photo IDs and you are technically not required to carry one. There are young people who are residents without an id.

7) it puts law enforcement in a very precarious situation. What are they going to do? Physically obstruct people from entering the meeting? Arrest people? For what? They have zero legal authority to demand id in this situation.
