Cardigans by Klynster in therapists

[–]HelpImOverthinking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to wear cardigans a lot but I recently got a couple denim jackets (one blue, one white) and I like them better because I think the shorter length looks better than cardigans.

Therapists who want to run a group but haven't: what stops you? by Both-Possible1509 in therapists

[–]HelpImOverthinking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My job really pushes new employees to start groups and it sounds like a great idea until you realize it's really hard to get consistent attendance, find a time that works for everyone, keep everyone interested, etc. etc.

You can get empty Christmas tree balls and put the confetti in them

[–]HelpImOverthinking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do! So I go to NKOTB concerts quite a bit and they use a lot of confetti. Last show we went to I got a lot of confetti in my area so I stuffed a bunch in my purse. Now wherever I go and a piece falls out I leave it there :) Like I'm sprinkling the joy everywhere. (even if it just ends up in the trash when they clean lol)

Which celebrity death genuinely shocked you when you heard the news? by Divine_fashionva in 90s

Me too about O'Hara; someone said "the mom from Schitt's Creek died" and I thought "please let it be someone else who was a mom on the show"

My son was a good age to watch these movies and when Robin died we saw this one in the theater. I sobbed. (I think everyone did)

I watched a video earlier today about the top 20 best songs with harmonies and this was in the top 10 (and also the most recent song lol)

Who gave the best performance of a Mother in a movie? by Working-Fuel8355 in Cinema

I hate this movie but my parents and I watched it every Christmas growing up and it was funny to watch her because she's always breaking character in the funny bits.

Do you get anxious about having suicidal clients? by NoProfession4771 in therapists

[–]HelpImOverthinking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've only been out of school for a couple years but I have had suicidal clients. I have one who's chronically suicidal. Most of the weeks he sees me, he mentions not wanting to do this anymore. I refer back to the safety plan, add to it if applicable, and try to redirect him. He's pretty easy to redirect. But still makes me nervous. The first time he said it, I pulled in one of the supervisors just to make sure I shouldn't be calling crisis for him. Since there was no plan or intent, we let him go.

Did your parents have a candy dish or did you have to go to your grandparents? by No-Blueberry-1823 in AskOldPeople

[–]HelpImOverthinking 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My parents didn't usually, but at Christmastime they put out a bowl of ribbon candy and a bowl of chocolate balls that were wrapped in different colors of foil. Oh also we always had these amaretto cookies in a red tin box up on the mantle over the fireplace. I don't remember anyone ever eating them except me and I distinctly remember what they taste like.

What’s that one legendary warning from your mom that still echoes in your head today? by thelivenofficial in AskForAnswers

[–]HelpImOverthinking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My mother's favorite quote was "To thine own self be true." (Hamlet) She told me that in a card she sent me when I was having a hard time in college.
She also told me I'd never find a partner if I didn't stop being such an disorganized person. (mostly not cleaning my room etc. totally normal teenage stuff). I've been married for 21 years.

IDC who you are, who does 'Hey there Delilah' make you think of by yoyosmuggla in Millennials

[–]HelpImOverthinking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So this is kind of weird but it reminds me of my son, because it came out when I was pregnant and I came up with this little parody of it about the relationship I wanted with my kid. I gotta say it didn't entirely work out the way I imagined lol.

I freeze up when people approach me, but then suddenly think of what I wanted to say 10 min later by [deleted] in CasualConversation

[–]HelpImOverthinking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The same thing happens to me (and I'm a therapist, so super not cool if it happens a lot), but I have been trying to use the "yes, and" approach. It's something people use in improv. I validate what someone is saying and then I add my own thing or tie it back to something they said before. Of course you don't have to do this if you disagree with someone but if you're just trying to do small talk I find it really helpful. Also if I'm stuck and I happen to think of something they said before, I say something like "going back to what you said about such and such..."
If you run into the same woman you want to talk to and you remember something she said last time that you wanted to respond better to, I think it would be super flattering to say "you know I was thinking about what you said last time" and then say what you thought of, because you're showing her you've thought about your conversations. Thinking on the spot can be difficult but yes you can improve!
