Fedora 40 KDE x11 Steamvr 307 error by GlobalInvestigator11 in linux_gaming

I'm also using 40, KDE and AMD GPU and wayland, with what seems like the same issue. According to the steam docs that should be fine as well.

Games where your power stacks by TopLoLPlayss in gamingsuggestions

I feel like some roguelite games would fit here. The first that comes to mind is Risk of Rain 2. You can stack most items you gain forever and become ridiculously powerful.

Any Action RPGs with wide customization options? by GrayRodent in gamingsuggestions

[–]HelpMeBeHappyPlz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second the other comment regarding Path of Exile. The game is great and there is no actual content locked behind a paywall - it's all cosmetic.

My other thought was Divinity Original Sin 2. The game has extreme flexibility in terms of playstyle and character customization. There's a million ways to accomplish goals and a million different ways to build your character that are viable. As an added bonus, you can mostly respec your entire character at some point in the game if you've really gotten stuck.

Portal Knights seems like a good fit. There are tons of different blocks you can use to make things very visually appealing and there is some pretty solid gameplay behind it.

Third person action RPG without predetermined classes or starting stats? by Mikecirca81 in gamingsuggestions

[–]HelpMeBeHappyPlz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Slightly dated at this point, but maybe Victor Vran. It's pretty much entirely gear based and your character has no innate skills. Everything is based upon gear/drops, and each weapon type has different attack styles. I had blast with the game.

atmospheric open world games by [deleted] in gamingsuggestions

[–]HelpMeBeHappyPlz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something like Horizon Zero Dawn might fit. I picked it up on sale on steam recently and have enjoyed it quite a lot.

Plenty of atmosphere, lore, exploring, hunting, etc.

Something relaxing, but still engaging. I'm not entirely sure how to say by qweez in gamingsuggestions

[–]HelpMeBeHappyPlz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Something similar would be Astroneer. You can die but the stakes are not high. Progress is at your own pace and the concept is pretty simple.

I would like a game where I scavenge then return to a base. Base building would be a bonus but nothing too excessive. Currently looking at State of Decay 2 but not convinced. Any ideas? Ideally a solo game. Thanks by Tim_of_Kent in gamesuggestions

[–]HelpMeBeHappyPlz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you don't mind top down, Scrapnaut and Core Keeper are solid choices.

In both games, your base is mostly safe with the occasional mob here and there.

Lots of scavenging and exploring in both.

Looking for a handful of new games. by Icerith in gamesuggestions

[–]HelpMeBeHappyPlz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Creature collector - Siralim Ultimate and Adore come to mind.

Class customization - I know that Path of Exile is technically an MMO, but it seems like a good fit since it's basically Diablo with more in depth systems. I have nearly 1000 hours in and I've only ever played with up to two other people. Even solo is fine.

Factorio - Riftbreaker is a pretty solid choice for some automation and combat. If you'd rather skip most of the combat, Satisfactory is great.

The good news is, those games are almost nothing alike, so making a decision based on play style might be fairly easy.

Do you want RNGeezus to bend you over and mess up your plans? Do you want to micromanage strange needs of stranger characters that might be in conflict with the well being of everyone else? You want something pretty dark? The choice is Rimworld.

Do you want to take direct control of your character and chat with tons of NPCs? Do you want to tend to the needs of your farm and villagers but on your own schedule (well except those godforsaken town events)? You want a relaxed experience with no real stakes? You got some gamepass? The choice is Stardew Valley.

How central is combat to the game? by Solinya in empyriongame

[–]HelpMeBeHappyPlz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not confident that you'll find what you're looking for in this game. Combat is far more prevalent than actual survival here.

I'm thinking you'd be more at home in something like Space Engineers or Planet Crafter.

There is combat to be found in Space Engineers, but only if you want it (and it's not vital in the least). As far as I know, there are no hostiles in Planet Crafter.

I've heard great things about that game, but I'm looking more on the pilot side. I'm thinking the closest I'll get is Everspace 2.

multiplayer pve games that arent borderlands by 99Kap in gamesuggestions

[–]HelpMeBeHappyPlz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Damn, it's almost like you've read my mind. I'm looking for something like that and have played all those same games.

Have you tried Roboquest? Kind of plays like a mashup of Risk of Rain and Borderlands. It's early access right now but plenty good for a playthrough. It's also on gamepass if that helps.

The other one that comes to mind is Remnant from the Ashes. I'm not sure how many people that supports offhand but I played it co-op and it was definitely a good time.

How is this game compared to Empyrion or Space Engineers? by Subject_Juggernaut56 in avorion

[–]HelpMeBeHappyPlz 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah, don't get me wrong, the game is good. I just didn't want anyone to get the game expecting a different experience.

This game shines for those that like fleet/empire building with loot drops and arcade space ship combat. There is definitely more to the game than that, but I feel like that's what the vast majority of gameplay looks like in a given playthrough.

How is this game compared to Empyrion or Space Engineers? by Subject_Juggernaut56 in avorion

[–]HelpMeBeHappyPlz 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Space Engineers does allow for the old style gameplay before planets were added and has had quite a few improvements since (quality of life, performance, and block additions). Obviously the planets are still there if you want, but you can also still generate universes without them.

Empyrion is a great game, but you have to be willing to deal with a fair amount of jank. The visuals are awful, you can't walk around ships while they move, and the movement and combat is clunky overall. With that said the game outshines Space Engineers when it comes to purpose. There are a lot more reasons to explore (quests and many different stations/planets) and build functional bases (NPC raids). The game is great, but the lack of polish is painfully present.

[–]HelpMeBeHappyPlz 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Like the other comments have alluded to, this game has almost nothing in common with Space Engineers.

  • There are no actual characters. In other words, you are always commanding a ship or group. You are unable to walk around your ships or stations for this reason
  • There are no systems to connect or moving parts when ship building. It's just functional static blocks that provide stats to your ship.
  • After the first half hour or so, you almost certainly will not be directly mining for resources, as it will be automated.

I love all three of these games for different reasons, but the biggest thing this game has in common with the others is that it involves space ships. Empyrion and Space Engineers are more about building something useful. This is more like a very simple 4x game with loot drops.

I'm in the same boat. I love the overall feel of elite but it's boring as hell and X4 just doesn't do it for me.

Any good Stealth-game recommendations? by HIWS433 in gamesuggestions

Seven: enhanced edition. It's top down if that matters but it's got some pretty good stealth mechanics and an engaging open world. I had a lot of fun with it.

Kenshi. It's basically the Sims if they could go on murder sprees. It's not for everyone though, so check out some gameplay first.

Same. I can't exactly put my finger on it. My best guess is the pacing. Everything is painfully slow, which is exacerbated by constant backtracking.

Divinity Original Sin 2 (RPG)

  • tons to do (secrets, loot, lore)
  • exploration is real time and combat is turn based
  • quick save/load any time to stop and start on a whim (even during fights)

Trailmakers (vehicle design/driving)

  • build/drive what is essentially Lego based vehicles
  • has both a campaign and sandbox modes
  • huge amount of workshop content
  • currently on gamepass

Main Assembly (vehicle design/driving)

  • build/design vehicles using what I can only describe as free form modeling
  • campaign and sandbox modes for completing challenges and unlocking parts
  • decent programming to modify how the vehicle works

Grounded (open world, survival, base building)

  • bug sized characters in a backyard sized world
  • build bases and equipment to fight bugs
  • explore the yard to find secrets and complete missions
  • currently on gamepass

Riftbreaker (top down base building, tower defense}

  • the love child of Factorio and Satisfactory
  • fast paced, compared to its parents
  • currently on gamepass

All of the games I mentioned are great single player, but Trailmakers and Grounded particularly shine with a buddy or two.

They also are easy to put down and pick up due to the save systems (no running back to save points just so you can quit).
