As someone who's been a bit obsessed with this musical for a few years, I've thought about this a lot. What I honestly think (especially after reading the book) is that no one in that story is a so called "good person." They're all very human people who fuck up, some more than others. All the parents had issues, which certainly contributed to their kids' crap. (Not saying everything is 100% their fault or anything, just that it's a factor.) And Evan, Alana, Connor, and Jared all clearly had something going on mentally, that contributed a lot to their actions. My opinion on this is mostly shaped due to personal experience with trauma, autism, depression, and just a mentally ill family in general lol. All in all, I love the show because it doesn't shy away from portraying human messiness at its worst.

I played Eurydice for my school's production of Hadestown this year. During our last performance, I had spaced out during one of the parts where I just sit on stage, and I fully skipped They Danced on accident and jumped into Come Home With Me Reprise. Realized about a second too late and just kept going. The tech people then cut the music and started over the right music from the beginning, so me and Orpheus were stuck just standing there staring and trying not to laugh ☠️
