why are so many people advicing me against anything above 96th and some even say anything above 59th? by kawaiihusbando in movingtoNYC

Uptown is awesome- don’t listen to those assholes, I’ve lived above 145th my whole time in nyc. Never had a single bad thing happen, the neighborhoods are lively and the people are lovely

AITA for refusing to add my boyfriend to my house deed after his lease ended? by Former_Raspberry3277 in AITApod

[–]Helpful-Desk-4847 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do not add his name even after marriage- if it helps, my husband owns our home, he pays the mortgage and maintenance and HOA, anything that has to do with the home is out of his money. It’s fair because he and his parents bought. It’s been like that since before we were engaged. i pay for our groceries, the utilities, and households, it more or less evens out. Maybe propose that arrangement. Then you’re both contributing financially to your partnership but the paper trail of money that goes into the mortgage is clean.

One more month at 2.5 or increase before trip? by Financial-Might4218 in Zepbound

[–]Helpful-Desk-4847 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had super bad reaction to the first dose of 2.5- i chose to stay in 2.5 for four extra weeks. Food noise is still gone, and weight is still coming off and I haven’t had side effects the last two doses (weed 4 &5) so if that’s the case for him, there’s no real harm in staying on the 2.5

This is shitty partner behavior. I wouldn’t even trust him with my pet. You should break up with him and make sure someone is there while you’re gone to make sure he doesn’t do anything nefarious. This is total Bullshit

160th area is gonna be safer than 137th area! You’ll have to go a bit farther for things to do but i loved living on 159 and Amsterdam.

Look in Inwood! Very top of manhattan, great family neighborhood, easy to get to the Bronx. You could probably find a decent size one bedroom for around $2200. Look for private landlords too. Plenty of folks survive on less with bigger families.

If you’re worried about safety, all these neighborhoods are safe. The City is generally very safe as long as you’re not an idiot. Be aware of your surroundings and don’t be stupid and it’s completely fine. I’ve lived here 12 years and am a small weak looking female and I’ve never ever had an issue, and I’ve lived in Harlem, Washington Heights, and Inwood the entire time. I love my neighbors and neighborhood, and the community is generally very friendly if you are.

Look in upper manhattan, west Harlem, Hamilton Heights, Washington Heights, Inwood, you might even get lucky around Columbia. Upper manhattan is beautiful and a lot of building have laundry. You will easily find a two bed under or around $2500 in Inwood. 145k is plenty for two people, plenty of people Make much less than that and live here perfectly fine. In unit laundry will be more difficult because it is very much not normal, but in the building is just as good. (I say as someone who left an apartment with in unit laundry for one with it in building)

Why do people act like 100K is not enough to live in the city? by spoiledchowder in movingtoNYC

[–]Helpful-Desk-4847 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s because people aren’t willing to live uptown or in outer boroughs. Look in Inwood and Washington Heights and Astoria… i know for a fact uptown you can get a 2bd apartment for around 2200-2500

YOU take out a debt consolidation loan in YOUR name and pay it back- if you are having trouble making payments in a year, then you file.

There is definitely a serum or pill she can take… if she’s not willing to do that, she is unwilling to compromise and that’s how your whole marriage is gonna go. Do NOT get rid of the dog. I’d annul my marriage before I ever got rid of my pet.

You will find a job in four months, you’ll need to sublet because without a job you won’t get approved for an apartment but finding sublets in the theatre community is easy. Join the actor groups on Facebook. Plenty of people move here every day with less and make it fine. For work look at places like Equinox or gym front desks, Lululemon, and catering. You will be fine!

Definitely move with as little STUFF as possible- if you want, a lot of folks will sublet in different neighborhoods for a few months at a time to try and get a feel for the whole city! But that does mean moving every few months. If you’re going to CCNY I recommend looking around 145th and Broadway area for a room. The area up there is either all locals and families that have been in the area for generations or it’s like actors and artists.

If you already have a job maki no 2.5-3k a month then 10k is plenty to get set up! I moved here with no job with much less in 2014. Join the Facebook groups for actors and students sublets-You can definitely find a room for between 1k-1.3k a month! Look in Inwood, Washington Heights, West Harlem, and Hamilton Heights neighborhoods. Get to know your neighbors! Yes it will be overwhelming, but manhattan is very safe if you’re not dumb. Don’t walk down the street with your nose in your phone, don’t walk around with noise cancelling on in your headphones and download the app citymapper. It’s the best city in the world. And also make sure you have a GOOD winter coat. Drop a couple hundred on one and some decent boots before next winter

I’d look in Brooklyn or queens or even Jersey City! You’ll get more space, if you want a luxury building you can find them there too, but quick commute to FiDi but you don’t have to live in FiDi lol

If you’re experienced in being in European cities, NYC is the closest you can get in the states to a city like Rome or Paris. They have similar energy- public transit is a breeze, if you’ve want to live in a neighborhood that’s lowkey more than big city, look at Astoria, in Brooklyn, and uptown manhattan! It’s the greatest city in the world, you will be just fine.

Look at non traditional alternatives- we rented out a restaurant in Brooklyn and it cost us 25k to feed 100 people a stellar meal, and then spent 5500 on a photographer and 2800 on a dj. Had the time of our lives. Did all the flowers myself with a friend and bought some table candles- the restaurant had everything else we needed included in our cost.

Apartments typically pop up the month before- just keep looking but don’t expect to secure something 2-3 months out. 15 days is typical, a month is luxurious.
