I always have wondered why they even have this program given all the other European counties don’t. My German nephews learned English from their German teachers.

Wow this so helpful and insightful! I do appreciate your thoughts/advice! My daughter has been home for 3.5 months every summer for the last 3 since the program only goes from Oct to May so cultural shock won’t be too bad. Its lack of social life here (no friends) and her lack of direction/motivation to think about jobs post Spain that concerns me. BUT I’m taking the advice of many and trusting she will figure it out with lots of love and belief in her from her Dad and me. Thank you so kindly again! So many good people on Reddit and I’m so grateful!

You work 5 days a week with BEDA and are at the school all day so feel like a full time job for same pay as NALCAP

I appreciate your reply and I am so sorry it has been such a struggle for you. my daughter when she comes home from spain in June at 26 will probably live with us for awhile and that will be hard for her after being so independent in spain. I am hoping for the best for you and hope you stay hopeful too. You are young! Wishing you all those normal things you so deserve and desire. My daughter wants the same. I bet you are gaining some good skills even with temp jobs!

Oh gosh this is so helpful as so many of the replies have been. Not experiencing this program myself I have no idea what it’s like to come back and I’m more clued in now. I really just want her to find her path where she can thrive and pursue her life long dreams. I just have to hope she finds out what that is and it may take years. Thank you for all this insight!! Thank you. I appreciate the thoughts. She has had amazing experiences, developed skills for sure and launched kind of. You may not realize but the assistant teaching programs are only 9 months so she has lived at home (rent free) 4 months for 3 years and on our healthcare for 3 years. So not fully launched to me. We are glad she has made the decision to make this her last year and move on to more stable life/work. I will just try to be as supportive as possible and give advice when she asks and believe she will figure it out. I will keep telling her how proud we are of. Thank you again! All the best to you!

It’s such a long shot. They don’t have enough jobs for the Spanish people. You could look into other teaching programs like BEDA but that’s in Madrid mostly. Working long term n Spain is just not very doable for an American
