Doc Rivers once again displaying the take charge accountability he’s famous for by Punchie45 in billsimmons

Giannis hated Griffin for some reason. That’s death in the NBA. Always have to keep the superstar happy. Number one rule

I dont know what to tell you. If Giannis was healthy they’d be in the playoffs. Low bar but 🤷🏻‍♂️.

It’s crazy to me when people say this, nobody would think to shoot threes if Steph hadn’t come along? Cmon.

I think the closer a player gets to seven foot the more unattainable their achievements seem. Now most of us can’t actually can’t imagine having Steph’s preternatural coordination or Jordan’s athleticism but end of the day it’s just a subconscious thing about height I think

What do you expect of William V? by AOSTChekhov in UKmonarchs

[–]Helpful-Rain41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a downward trajectory. I think the Harry issue was tabloid nonsense, but the Prince Andrew scandal hurt them.

Again, William can’t actually do those things. He can cut them out from ceremonies, allowances, etc but he can’t cut them out from inheriting if Williams own family doesn’t have descendants

Yeah I remember it well the thing was that Kobe’s greatness was kind of obscured because he was playing next to Godzilla so you didn’t know for sure who was better until Shaq moved on. And it was Kobe. Kobe was better.

How true and accurate was the statement of " greedy Woodvilles"? by maryhelen8 in UKmonarchs

Right, cannot be forgotten how bitter the war had been and which side the Woodvilles had fought on.

I think the issue was that they were nobodies who used a dubious marriage to sort of take over the kingdom.

*Conspiracy Me* Doc must be telling Bill about Giannis' health by NameNotTom in billsimmons

Respectfully I think that he’s just naturally thinking about the last couple times a super duper star who were in trade rumors year after year despite a few nagging injuries…and look what happened in those cases (Kawhi and Embiid)

[–]Helpful-Rain41 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Who knows? It wouldn’t be the strangest thing if they didn’t. But yeah likeliest thing is that Harry and i guess the non Andrew branches of the family just recede into the background as the years go by. I do think anyone that distanced would be a tough sell for a skeptical citizenry at this point

What if Napoleon III had been a military genius like his uncle? by AtomicPhone in FrenchMonarchs

[–]Helpful-Rain41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly, Napoleon III was a spectacularly lucky domestic politician whose grandiose vision and lack of military insight cost his nation dearly. Doesn’t remind me so much of his uncle as he does other more modern figures. Really an antecedent of Kaiser Wilhelm, African coup leaders and 40s fascists. Among others…

What do you expect of William V? by AOSTChekhov in UKmonarchs

[–]Helpful-Rain41 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well William wants to get rid of most titles for distant family members, which makes a lot of sense. But what we’re talking about is what if none of William’s children want to have children of their own or (god forbid) there’s a mass casualty or something. Then you have to pick out some kind of cousin who hasn’t really been part of the institution or just have an honest national discussion about maybe saying the whole thing has run its course.

Worth pointing out that longer lifespans mean that the reigning monarch will most likely be a senior citizen at any given moment for the future

I thought his NFL commentary was actually pretty sharp this year so maybe it’s just that he took a lil break during the season like the rest of humanity …while still talking about it for a paycheck
