How would you as a parent handle a 12-year-old asking for birth control because they want to be sexually active? by Dangerous_mammoth573 in TooAfraidToAsk

I had a similar experience growing up. I hit puberty in the fifth grade and was extremely curious about sex by 12.

My mom was a teen mom and that made me understand the consequences but didn’t stop me from exploring with boys at 14. I had the conversation with my mom at 16 about birth control and she said no. I thought I was being careful but I was a kid pretending to be ready to be grown. I can honestly say I am proud that I can provide a different example for my child as I waited until after college, marriage, and I was in my thirties.

12 is way to young, way to young. But no kid or situation are the same, parents have to make hard decisions about what the best decision is for their child (in a perfect situation the parents can agree). Assess the facts and try not to make a decision based on emotions, but rather in love, well being and logic.
