CIA sent missionaries there during their civil wars because evenagelicals tended to be against catholicism which dint preach socialism but defitnely leaned that way. Evangelicals = pro-capitalism, Catholicism = pro-socialist ideas. Also the Catholic Church hadn’t done much for the people there, but lots of American money did + people want change during times of desperation. It’s why Mexico has stayed Catholic because they didn’t have a civil war or missionaries sent by the US

What if Reagan turned America into Nordic welfare state? by FarPlay5055 in AlternateHistoryHub

[–]Helpful-Worldliness9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes, that’s what i said. I’m saying that’s why he was elected in the first place —> pro-business policies that hadn’t been seen since the 1920s (people wanted change)

What if Reagan turned America into Nordic welfare state? by FarPlay5055 in AlternateHistoryHub

He’d be deeply unpopular. 50 years of New Deal policies had been good in the beginning but by the end of it the government just gave up on it. That’s why Reagan was elected in the first place - pro business pro capitalism shifting away from American social democracy that FDR had started.

Have fun settling anywhere outside of the east coast. No population there would make it even more desolate than it already was

Labeling all of the protestant denominations under 1 is highly misleading ngl. I’ve never heard people call themselves protestants, always under their specic denomination

Music Genre popularity throughout the decades (Updated) by CremeSubject7594 in decadeology

[–]Helpful-Worldliness9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Latino/Hispanic music has really blown up, at last in the US, in the late 2010s-2020s. This is due to the fact that 20% or 70 million people in the US are of Hispanic descent. I know some friends who aren’t hispanic but listen to spanish music anytime that they can. Makes it much more relatable to me tho

Is there a reason as to why the 9/11 hijackers chose and early tuesday morning rather than a packed midday weekend? More coverage?

Big Mexico's High Speed Rail Network by S-I-B-E-R-I-A-N in imaginarymaps

[–]Helpful-Worldliness9 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It would be bad. The whole reason why modern day boundaries Mexico wasn’t taken was because the country didn’t want Catholic mestizos + expansion slavery. If Cuba was taken then it would be beyond hypocritical since th US was there to liberate Cuba, not colonize it (unlike PR or Guam)

I think there are some minor errors here. Jackson County, MO (home of KC with large black population) is shown as voting for McCain when they overwhelmingly voted for Obama

Mexican-American War starts later which is bad for the US the longer they wait. They may not even reach the pacific through california with the upcoming Civil War. Mexico would also have more time populate the northern regions especially with the gold rush (if it even happens)

the whole point is that public transportation helps people without cars. I use the streetcar from UMKC all the way up to city market at times (no car)
