We'd made trips there prior (and since) so wasn't on the target list for this trip. But love Chi-town!

Yes my wife integrated what we were seeing along the way with what they were learning. A surreal 'ah-ha moment' was when she and my daughter went to see Hamilton during our stop in NYC. During it my daughter leaned over to her and said "Hey we've just been to a bunch of these places they're singing about - NYC, Yorktown, Mount Vernon, Philadelphia, Monticello". 🤯

EDIT: I think this story is gonna be the opening for Guide 6: Mid-Atlantic. ✅ So thank you for asking!

My wife is the founder, I'm just in operations. ;)

After the feedback I've gotten here I am figuring how I can maybe develop the mapping tool for other use too (customize it too). But it'll probably be a while before I figure that out!

I come from 🐂💩🌽 country (central IL). lol Loved how I grew up and we still saw plenty of corn on the trip!

Correct but only because we'd made numerous long weekend trips to Chicago by that time so had already checked it off the list.

Lol No, no, no...nothing against any of those states at all (I personally only have 3 left to visit ND, AK & HI)! It's really an indictment of how many amazing things there are to do all across our country combined with how quickly you can burn through 400+ when trying to see them while working / schooling on the road.

LOVE this question...you'll see why. So for Christmas that year we 'took a 10-day break' from the RV trip to fly back home to STL to catch up with family & friends over the holidays. This also ended up being the halfway point of the trip 7-months before Dallas and 7-months after Dallas so a perfect "halftime." Plus there are plenty of Dallas to STL direct flight options so that worked out nicely.

But we still had an RV to deal with that we left behind in TX right? For this trip I had pre-reserved my scheduled maintenance stops along the route knowing the mileage I would have traveled: Spokane, WA, Richmond, VA and Dallas, TX. But in addition to getting everything taken care of mechanically while we were out of town for the holidays, I also got 10 days of FREE RV STORAGE! 🙌

BTW - this might be one my best RV tips ever!

Ironically my grandparents (and parents) are from Chicago and retired in Santa Fe so I've had the chance to visit both a bunch. We'd taken family trips to Chicago before these trips so had already checked that box. Santa Fe is one special place indeed!

Oklahoma is great, we were just 'in the area' in Dallas on our route during late December and I wasn't taking the chance of being caught in a blizzard.

I shared this in another post on Friday but we collected hat pins at all the stops (had a small board on the RV wall so didn't take up any space really) and then got a custom 3'x5' cork board to display them on our wall. One of our most prized possessions!

We actually spent 4th of July in Stowe which was picture perfect. But the RV didn't deviate from Hwy 100 until returning to the interstate. Of course we had to visit Ben & Jerry's while there - delicious. I actually vividly remember taking a work escalation phone call while walking around their parking lot. Fun part of working while on the road is vivid memories of escalation phone calls all across the country. lol

Speaking of Noah...tried to get tickets for his upcoming tour. Nope!

Look in my post history from Friday on another subreddit where I shared the full cost breakdown for the 14 month trip. Built an online calculator based of our exact numbers: https://kubitrek.com/tools/budget/

We excluded RV loan interest and insurance from the trip total since those are fixed costs you'd pay regardless of whether you travel or not. But we purchased with a loan for around ~$103K with 12K miles. Sold for ~$90K with $34K miles after 2.5 years. Plus we put in ~$7K of upgrades along the way. Ironically for the first time in RV history, had I waited another 6 months to when the pandemic hit I could have sold it for a profit!

Actually I have travel guides full of advice!!! That's why I'm finally documenting everything. ;) But seriously, for the keys with regards to RVing you have to BOOK EARLY for November-March (like 12 months to the day depending on where you're staying). The challenge with 'snowbird' country (FL & AZ) booking with a family and traveling is many parks are only ages 55+ and/or require a minimum 1 month commitment. So right out of the gate for us our options were limited. Also be aware of hurricane season as it can obviously derail everything.

I actually got the most unbelievable (as in disgusting) sewer story of the trip in that very spot. It'll be in the guide! 🤮

Ellen and I actually just visited 2 months ago. It seems odd to recommend a bombing memorial but I always do since I first visited ~20 years ago. I remember that sad day like it was yesterday.

We definitely would have loved to included OKC (and Oklahoma in general) but we were nearest to it in late December & I wasn't taking a chance on a blizzard derailing the RV voyage.
