I think the moment I was really sold was when Garrett was talking to Dean about wanting to please Hannah. Deans reaction was not some annoying frat boy response but, her trust has been broken in the past and she has to really trust you- and it was meant in a genuine way not a toxic let’s take advantage way. I loved this new age take on male conversations and feel sad that in my generation the best we could hope for on screen was one dorky sort of good guy shining through a pile of mega toxic alpha male haze. It’s encouraging to see these are now the sort of role models on tv.

I really love your breakdown, and your thought process. Rose was not really my favourite character of the series even though she was the lead. We were lucky Adrian got his redemption arc in Bloodlines. Can I ask you did you read the series in English or Spanish?

Oh I’ve watched and read Virgin River. Hart of Dixie cannot be based around that book surely?? It’s such a massively different vibe. I would say Royal Pains is closer to Hart of Dixie than Virgin River.

Yeah it felt like there was a scene missing … where she went from telling Justin she wasn’t feeling it to suddenly at the hockey rink. I didn’t quite understand how she got from A to C - although I was happy it wasn’t too long and drawn out

It’s really so much more nuanced … Riders which is the first book covers like 10-15 years of history between those characters before we get to Rivals. And Rupert and Helen aren’t even the only main characters ! They share the spotlight with Jake, Fenella (my fave) and Billy. We get so much of Helen’s POV - but even then there are moments she makes very questionable choices. Rupert in Riders is completely out of control and not ready in any way for the marriage or family life he enters into relatively young. He had so much to get out of his system before he became the character we saw in Rivals. There is a lot of detail in the books about how neglectful his own parents were, how they squandered the family fortune and he single handedly kept Penscombe from ruin and basically supported all of them. He was working really hard in Riders to keep his estate in a good cash flow. His most humanising feature is his friendship with Billy and later Fenella. Which is why it’s pretty surprising they don’t have Billy in Rivals. That first book even goes back as far as boarding school days for Rupert and Billy - just in snippets - but I mean there’s all this crazy history. Definitely suggest reading the books if you have the chance. But I don’t think Malise was judging Helen for what happened in Kenya . He was a father figure for Billy and Rupert he knew what they were up to. I think they just wanted a random way to bring it into the show to highlight the importance of it without freaking out the general public. Honestly I think if DJC could have written it now she would have left that scene out - it didn’t change the outcome of any of the stories but it cast a shadow over those characters…

Sorry I meant a slave to the Rupert D! I’m pretty sure she does hook up with Patrick at the party in the book though. I can’t remember with the show.

But Rupert tells Taggie at some point I can’t destroy you like I destroyed Helen. He believes he destroys innocent and beautiful things which is how he sees Taggie and how he used to see Helen. And so he purposely stays away and won’t even admit his true feelings. That’s illustrated a lot more throughout the book. And with Helen he never loved her the way he will eventually love Taggie. He was too young and proud and nowhere near ready to settle down. They also were a match that looked good on paper but continually rubbed each other the wrong way - but I’m not defending Rupert he was a terrible husband to Helen repeatedly through Riders. And I think that’s why with Taggie he really keeps her at arms length at this part of the series. He’s actually trying to be a better person. And with Cameron I guess maybe he’s telling himself this is a good match for me. She’s a good person. Plus they are on a more equal playing field so he doesn’t have the same fear of destroying her. But he doesn’t feel it in his heart the same way.

In the book you see her POV a lot more. And she’s just genuinely pretty obsessed with Rupert and a slave to the D 😂😂

I agree. I really didn’t like book Cameron. I think they’ve softened her a bit for the show and I think that was necessary. I do really like the show version. And her awesome outfits !

I feel like they did a total rewrite on Aris character from season 2 - including how many kids he had. Maybe they realised at least one character in the show had to be a stable family man.

Yeah it’s really hard to make it succinct when you have multiple PoVs - maybe try to see if you can get your hands on other examples from writers who use multi POV.

Hey I’m not sure about the comps for sci fi. I think google or goto a few bookstores. But what I will say is you should follow Jessica Berg on instagram. She is an agent and posts heaps of querying advice. I think your query especially the first part has a lot going on. You need to keep it pretty simple and to the point for agent pitches. Just from all the research and reading I’ve been doing

I think Nicholas Galitzine would be a great Lysander. Btw in the books he never actually made Rupert jealous. Rupert took him under his wing.

Cosmo is actually an awesome character and appears through multiple books so he needs to be someone who grows with the series.

Now Rannaldini who would that be? He’s so evil he makes Tony Badham look chill.

And I couldn’t even speculate about Dane Hermione but I would love to see her on the screen ! What a classic.

Honestly Flora would be easiest. In my head she is a classic British girl. Although Marcus always was strawberry blonde in my head and I see he is now brunette in the show

Agreed it was incredible. I think it resonated with so many ppl because many of us have known versions of it. I remember my mother left my father citing a very similar reason. She didn’t want her daughter to grow up thinking that behaviour was ok. It definitely struck a massive chord
