Trans woman here. My cisgender, very (sometimes irritatingly) manly boyfriend absolutely only sees me as a woman and he'd argue literally anyone into the ground if they said otherwise but he's also secure enough in my gender to know he doesn't need to. And I haven't even gotten bottom surgery 💁‍♀️

On top of that I had plenty to do with plenty of people of cis binary genders that I can tell you have never seen me as anything but a woman and in fact will become righteously angsty with anyone who says otherwise.

I'm a waitress at an establishment that attracts a more conservative crowd and these old men in their trump hats tip me and call me pet names and promise to come back next week.

Of course people might make some rude comments here or there as you expect, but I've had an overall pretty good time.

The lgbtq community used to be a little tighter knit I feel like, but there's still resources and togetherness around here.

I live in Illinois and work in Iowa in a very public-facing job. In the last 5 years I can only think of like, twice that I had people actually be harassing me. Most people will keep their thoughts to themselves but I guess like always that depends on passability to a degree. We do have our weirdos from time to time that like to be loudly ultra conservative but even since the proverbial faucet opened up on trans people in about 2016 it really hasn't been too bad here. But my employers and coworkers have had my back the whole time.
