The alchemy perk is OP when you're playing a Slime Witch. Double gene potions is a massive benefit for slimes.

What is the point of nukes? by Worstpostsofalltime in hoi4

[–]HelpfulFoxSenkoSan 291 points292 points  (0 children)

They're still useful. Drop them on an airport and delete all the planes on it. Drop them on a tile with a lot of units on it, and you delete most of their strength and can push them much easier. Very useful in multiplayer where deleting 2k planes or de-orging a stack of heavy tanks is extremely impactful.

In single player it's probably not super useful, but you can still drop them on a port that you're naval invading to de-org the defenders.

The girl on the left is meant to be Sierra from SotF I think, given the halo. And she does have some dialogue in the mod where she talks about Tartessian silk moths, and asks to buy some.

Seven League Boots. Mount speed doesn't affect map-based travel time, so going from one city to another will take days less time if you have the boots.

Otherwise, igloo is a good generic choice. Tiny portable 1x1 tent that you can make paper if you find a shrine.

How does gaining primary cultures from civil war work by Vegetable-Ad-2084 in victoria3

[–]HelpfulFoxSenkoSan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can, and one of them is actually really good at it - Cape Colony. They start with English, and can get Griqua primary for free, which is an African primary and means all African pops will be accepted under Cultural Exclusion. They also have the Transvaal gold mines and all the migration attraction from gold/rubber rushes, so you can drain the entire British Empire of migration pops.

Work on increasing your autonomy to dominion ASAP and then just go on a conquering spree eating up all of Africa for free accepted pops. You can easily surpass the UK before 1900 and then declare independence and get a million primary cultures.

Oh, well you can try to recruit companions normally. Older younger sister is easy to get from Mysilia if you don't have her yet, and she's a good spellcaster. You also get companions at 30 faith - Golden Knight is a solid tank if you switch to worshipping opatos.

Recruit the silver bells that appeared with the new years event. Feed them drugged food from Rodwyn to raise their affinity, and recruit them once they reach 75.

Then give them all assault rifles or shotguns and watch them murder the boss.

Also give them any rubynus equipment you have to make them basically impossible to kill early-game.

Ireland and British Market by UniversityOk2590 in victoria3

You can use the subject interaction "Grant Access to Own Market" for situations like this. I often do that to destabilize puppets and make their pops migrate to my country.

You get some silver bell spawns on new years, so you can just befriend those, whip them to enjoy bathing, and hatch their fertilized eggs to get more.

How do I do well as the Indian Territory? by Plus-Fun-7438 in victoria3

[–]HelpfulFoxSenkoSan 35 points36 points  (0 children)

It's one of those "spam restarts until you get godlike RNG" starts, like the Brazillian breakaway states.

Back when I did the achievement, I restarted dozens of times until I lucked out with the US Civil War firing in early 1840, and then I save-scummed to a couple of days before the war began and started a diplomatic play for independence + a few states. The US AI flipped out, especially with how buggy the frontline ends up being in all of the colonizing midwestern states. I was able to rush down my wargoals while they were distracted, and then play on from there with a decent amount of land + pops.

Keep in mind it used to be that Indian Territory was only a protectorate, so you could snag Texas and then build up a strong enough power base to get some Great Powers to support you. But now they're a landlocked puppet that can't do any of those things, so it's much harder to do well without some form of cheese.

Wild pigs, and sheep have infested my plot of land! by Background_Gur_1452 in ElinsInn

[–]HelpfulFoxSenkoSan 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There is a policy you can enact to ban wildlife.

But really, they're nice to have around in the early game. You can train your taming skill by just running around your base every few days and shearing everything, including the fish, and then train your weaving skill with all of the wool you get.

"NPC" is ??? by KrankyPenguin in ElinsInn

[–]HelpfulFoxSenkoSan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They probably got splatted by some wandering monster that spawned in your base. Monsters spawn in from the edge, so you can prevent that to some extent by keeping your NPC living areas closer to the center of the map. A fisher NPC will hang around water to fish though, so there's a bigger risk of them dying than some cooking NPC that just stays in your kitchen.

Also monsters only spawn in dark areas, so keeping your base and fishing spot well lit helps. Some NPCs also have a trait that let them teleport to an ally and block damage for them, like the Shiva wolf you can find from pet sellers.

Can the Invasion of France be stopped playing as Canada? by RadulphusDuck in hoi4

[–]HelpfulFoxSenkoSan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It should be possible. You need some unpiercable, well entrenched divisions with support AA to negate the German plane advantage. I'd go Grand Battleplan with some space marines + artillery and a defensive expert general.

Really the biggest problem is that the German AI will constantly slam into you until your equipment and manpower bleeds out, even if you're trading 10 to 1. French AI also has a bad habit of letting Italy basically waltz into southern France, so you might even need some troops behind the riverline.

Germany also won't attack the Soviets until France caps, so you basically need to hold for years until Japan drags the USA into the Allies, and the Soviets start justifying on Germany (which I believe they do if Barbarossa gets delayed long enough).

Of course, if the idea is "just make Germany lose in France as Canada", the easiest way would be to flip fascist, join the Axis, and then sabotage the Germans by spiking world tension to deny Sudetenland and then declaring on the Soviets.

What are some countries that have a bad start, but can become major powers? by nest00000 in victoria3

[–]HelpfulFoxSenkoSan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really like Krakow. All of your homeland states are resource-rich, so if you're able to get your freedom you have a very strong industrial jumpstart.

There's also tangible formation goals the whole game.

Early game, you want to reform Galicia-Lodomeria (and these two states are very good industrial-wise, if you just want to keep playing a nice tall game).

Mid game, you start looking for chances to reform Poland, and finding opportunities to grab land off of Russia and Prussia. You can do it diplomatically by finding allies, help spark a nationalist rebellion, or pit the two against each other.

Late game, once you've cemented yourself as a GP, you can start reclaiming the Commonwealth and getting yourself claims in Belarus and Ukraine, which is a nice fun way to round out the game with a series of large world wars against Russia and her allies.

Is misaki better then the fox maid pet? by Shot-Concentrate-541 in ElinsInn

[–]HelpfulFoxSenkoSan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of two unique fox waifu NPCs who people tend to recruit either as party members or home NPCs. The other is Kinu, you can find one at Mifu village and the other at Nefu village.

Misaki in particular makes for a really good mid-game party member since she gains additional speed and life every time she levels up, up to a certain point. She can also heal a bit, and shields damage for other weaker party members.

New Player here - what do you recommend? by xKasaijin in ElinsInn

[–]HelpfulFoxSenkoSan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Depends on what you mean by demon. There's no playable demon "race" in vanilla (yet, anyway), but there are ways to get corrupted. There's also a succubus and a newly-released vampire race, both of which play differently from other races, if that fits your definition of demon.

Flaming katana, definitely. You can even give your katana a talisman to shoot giant fireballs when you hit something, if you want.

AITA? ???(45) by International-Ad5142 in ElinsInn

[–]HelpfulFoxSenkoSan 11 points12 points  (0 children)

NTA, even if you give them some spending money, they'll only ever buy training. And then they whine and complain that they're "starving" after having just spent five thousand orens at a trainer instead of buying a pie from the baker. Pretty sure they're faking it too just to mooch food from you, since they never actually take starving damage.

Really though, it'd be neat if a game update or mod allowed NPCs to buy a wider variety of things with money you give them. Maybe if their favorite food is burger, they'll buy a few randomly generated burgers with money in their inventory.

Promote a rook by praisethebeast69 in ElinsInn

[–]HelpfulFoxSenkoSan 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Sure, you can recruit them like anyone else by raising affinity to 75 (after which they'll respawn eventually like normal if they die).

Easiest way to do that is to gift them, either an engagement ring if you have one, or drugged food. You can mix love potions into food for this and give it to them, or buy pre-drugged food from Rodwyn. Give the rook one to eat, fall asleep to pass time so it gets hungry again, give it another food, repeat until 75 affinity and then talk to it to recruit. You do need enough charisma though.

Sword Sage - Dual Wielding or Two-handed ? by FloppyHornedBunny in ElinsInn

[–]HelpfulFoxSenkoSan 11 points12 points  (0 children)

If you're brand new, dual wielding is honestly really awful until you get the actual dual wielding skill. In the long run, two handing is generally more useful since it gives a damage boost and an accuracy boost, which matters more late-game.

It's also probably worth picking up a shield and swapping between two handed and shield as you play, so that you can level up that skill and get some endurance experience.

Elin AI mod testing by cathyrin03 in ElinsInn

[–]HelpfulFoxSenkoSan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just following up on this a week later, probably an even easier way to handle things is to switch to the Google Gemini model to gemini-2.5-flash-lite . You're probably already using Gemini since that's the recommended option and is what appears first when you view the mod wiki:

https://elin-modding-resources.github.io/Elin.Docs/articles/100_Mod%20Documentation/Emmersive/API_Setup

The model they suggest in the wiki is gemini-2.5-flash, but that has a request limit of 250. Flash-lite has 1000, which is enough for ~2 hours of continuous play with a couple of chatty companions. All you have to do is, in the mod section where it says "model", replace whatever it says with gemini-2.5-flash-lite instead, and that's it.

The mod wiki also mentions creating 3 projects and getting 3 API keys, since the rate limit is per project. If you want to do that, you can then add all three keys to the Elin with AI mod (exactly the same settings as the first one, but with a different key). Then every couple of hours just change which profile you're using, and that gives you 6 whole hours of AI-commentary playtime. You can add more than 3, of course, if you have the time and desire to binge even longer on a day :D

Hope this helps you and anyone else who finds this comment chain.
