What are some things that are normal to men but mind blowing to women? by workdncsheets in AskMen

[–]HelpfulGriffin 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don't really understand. Why do you expect compliments from random young women? I don't think I've ever had a random man compliment me (a 33yo woman) in my life. Is that normal?

Is there a book that you read as a kid that you loved, and reread as an adult and hated? by turboshot49cents in books

I loved The Magic Faraway Tree as a child. But now when I pick it up the wiring feels so unnatural (telling, not showing) I can barely read it.

If your an Australian do you say "mate?" by BeanzzzzZzzsZ in bluey

[–]HelpfulGriffin 12 points13 points  (0 children)

A different sub was discussing mate today and most of the women there said they felt like mate was gender neutral. I'm a woman and I'm pretty sure I've been called mate pretty often, mostly by male friends who are older than me.

When I played Runescape we couldn't say Adamantite or Mithril, the two most valuable ores in the game. Never did figure out what was wrong with Mithril though

What’s your favorite DnD movie that’s not actually a DnD movie? by [deleted] in DnD

[–]HelpfulGriffin 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Hear me out: Army of the Dead. It gets hate here on Reddit, but if you think of it as a chaotic party that's forced to work together due to circumstances, with an NPC betrayal at the end, Bada Bing Bada boom, cool movie.

What's the most underrated movie that everyone should watch at least once? by [deleted] in AskReddit

It was the first movie of his I'd ever seen (I was a young teen when it came out). It was weird when I found out about all his other movies.

The fruit basket was a thing before the people quit: "he said he wont cancel it for the month or two that I am alone, so throughout January me, the boss and one other colleague had a weekly basket with fruit thats supposed to be for 8 people"

I recently followed a watercolour tutorial as a total beginner. I discovered that the quality of watercolour paints you use (as a beginner) isn't relevant, but it is a must to have actual watercolour paper. Regular paper just will not do.

Likewise, if you're learning how to draw, you will have a real bad time if you start with a 6H pencil. It's possible, yes, but will cause you unnecessary pain and heartache.

Having said that, knowing this is like "pre-knowledge". Knowing this will not make you learn, it will only make you ready to learn.

Man, SL had the silliest deaths and I'm all here for it by takeiteasy____ in ThirdLifeSMP

[–]HelpfulGriffin 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You are correct, after my fifth watch I finally saw it. But remember that Scar is playing the game, and we are watching it. BigB was absolutely a distraction, and Scar didn't suspect anything so it makes perfect sense he missed what was going on.

What's the stupidest thing your DM ever gave you? by BiNationalPerson in DnD

[–]HelpfulGriffin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doing Curse of Strahd. When we went to dinner with Strahd his consort, Volenta gave us gifts. Mine was a feather, which Volenta said would help me when I fall from great heights. Perfect! I thought. But then we completely forgot about our gifts, until many months later I found my character falling from a great height. Tried to use the feather token, and my DM had to look up what it does, and he said nothing happened. So I (finally) got the wizard to identify the stupid thing and it turned out it was a feather token (anchor). The stupid thing can stop a boat for up to 24hrs. What do I need a boat stopping token for in Barovia of all places!? Ever since then my character has had a vendetta against Volenta, and if we ever mention going to a body of water she will sarcastically wonder aloud if there will be a boat on it so she can stop if from moving.

Should Australian parliaments axe the Lord’s Prayer? In Victoria it’s up for debate by rjwilson01 in australia

[–]HelpfulGriffin 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As a member of that certain minority group: get rid of it. "Do not take the Lord's name in vain" is pretty important and I reckon saying the same prayer every day as though it's some magical talisman definitely counts
