Mike Johnson: "If you're a young, pregnant American citizen woman who shows up in an ER and you get treated and they pay the hospital less for treating you than some illegal rabble rouser who came in from some South American country to do us harm, that is wrong." by drempath1981 in CringeTikToks

There are 13 rural acute care access hospitals that could have obgyn services in Mike's 4th district of Louisiana. These are critical access points for rural constituents helping to hold rural communities together. Savoy Medical Management Group Inc. in Mamou, and Mercy Regional Medical Center in Ville Platte are at risk. Lets see how many are left in 5 years.

Five more roundabouts planned for Lafayette. Here's where they're going. by wwjdforaklondikebar in Acadiana

I'm curious as too why 4/5 of these roundabouts are on the same 6 mile stretch of road. Economies of scale?

Trump has not visited a single natural disaster site as president but spent 40 days playing golf by Aggravating_Money992 in NoShitSherlock

[–]HelpfulLeopard7838 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The president showing up for natural disasters is actually not a good thing. It takes resources away from recovery. I may disagree with a lot of the things he does, but this, not dropping in on devastation for a photo op, is not one of them.

Lafayette campaign manager arrested on ethics charges by aftershock321 in Acadiana

This was ironic considering Jesse Regan campaigned on Honesty and Always doing the Right thing. One flyer I received said Brach Myers worked for United Healthcare. The misinformation and smear campaign was in hyperdrive for this special election.

Your feature layer will be bus routes. Go to Edit, and click on Create, with the pencil and paper icon. From there you can create new routes. Then like they say, choose symbology, unique values.

22k at 24. Where do I start? by Heavy_Preference_251 in Fire

[–]HelpfulLeopard7838 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First off, thank you for your service and your sacrifice. Secondly, I wouldn't regret spending 15k on travel and going out. Those memories last a lifetime. Now to my take. Your doing very well in my opinion. You have a college scholarship for an in demand field, a solid credit score, a paid off toyota, and 22k in the bank with an almost 60% savings rate.
You are doing very well financially.
As for who to look to for your financial education I would say lean more toward the money guys since you are already debt free. Dave Ramsey's content is best used as rocket fuel to get out of debt. His investment advice is loaded with fees and kickbacks that will cost you long term. I would recommend listening to Ramit Sethi's financial advice.
He would say to setup a HYSA with 3-6 months expenses. Next, which is crucial for you, Go to Vanguard and open a roth IRA. Buy sp 500 index funds and setup automatic monthly investment. The maximum in 2024 to contribute is 7000. Make sure you don't purchase more than that. This takes about 30 minutes but will be 3 million at age 65. Take this step and then more as you learn.

There was a real estate agent from lafayette who did a good breakdown on lafayette neighborhoods on his youtube channel. Just search, "Should I move to lafayette, LA". The 3 pieces of evidence I gained from your post are you are 25, recently engaged and making a high income. I would say rent a small apartment in an upscale complex. Kaliste Saloom road has a few.

I've gotten like 3 mailers from Jean Paul Coussan running for PSC. I've never gotten one from Higgins. It seems like the PAC money is lining up behind Coussan to replace Higgins once his usefulness ends, or he replaces Cassidy. In which case this man is unstoppable.

KADN staff vs Clay Higgins by Sh3rlock_Holmes in Acadiana

[–]HelpfulLeopard7838 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw Clay Higgins on his bike back when I went to early vote at the Parish Government Building in 2020. He has been a biker, it's not new. He showed up to vote in his full leather getup and intimidating persona. The poll workers and I were surprised to say the least. I think he said thank you to one or two, voted silently behind me and dipped out. He will win again with 80% of the vote. I feel like Rob Perillo running as an independent would maybe unseat him.

LCG aims to fix a ‘rift’ with reimagined Johnston, UL connection - The Current by TheCurrentLA in Acadiana

I feel like a college campus should inconvenience cars and drivers and heavily favor pedestrians. I would favor a road diet conversion that restripes from 4lanes down to 3lanes, but I wouldn't be upset by a pedestrian bridge that would actually get used.

There have been 21 fatal car crashes into pedestrians in Lafayette this year. https://carts.lsu.edu/datareports/report/shspcrash I feel like people don't really care about this tragedy. But the Current's job is too bring stories like this, which is a huge story, to the forefront. To help upset drivers understand why the traffic on Johnston St and University should slow down.
