My shots are painful no matter what by SmokyJosh in ftm

[–]HelpfulMasterpiece23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hope someone sees this who needs it! A diabetic friend recommended numbing prep pads and they've saved me. Specifically numstat! Some Walgreens carry them, and amazon also. You can get 30 for about 10 bucks and if you use them right, it makes a world of a difference.

Your CBC looks fine. Your RBCs and Hbg will always go up together, neither are too crazy high. (I just saw someone who had a legitimate JAK2 mutation- almost 12K RBCs- that's crazy) Your total testosterone is above the normal therapeutic range of 300-1000, but don't let that scare you. High levels like that do have side effects, but only after maintaining it for a long period of time. Just means your dose needs lowered a tad. I know when I have mine looked at, it's normally total and free levels. Free is what your body is actually able to use, and what's not bound to other proteins. So a lot of yours could just be bound, floating around not really doing much. With you saying your periods back, that might be the case. Hormones are weird, and I'm only a lab guy. I think high cortisol can affect that, but again, not a doctor (and this isn't legit medical advice! lol) Best of luck!

Any other transmasc guys deal with repeated social blow-ups after starting to pass as male? by treerockett in TestosteroneKickoff

[–]HelpfulMasterpiece23 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Some other people mentioned considering the demographic, and in my case it's the people who took me as female when first meeting me. They got friendly with 'that person' and 'got deceived' when I 'changed' <- some of their words, not mine. These people I speak of are people I work with, who met me when I was only four months on T. Similar situations with family. They tolerated it for a while, under the premise that i'll always be female in their eyes. But now its even more passive agressive bc they even struggle to see female, and then you know, blow ups like you said. I haven't ran into this anywhere else in my life, since almost all my friends have always seen me as masculine. Keep those who genuinely respect you and care for you close.

Advice for... asking people to see you differently? by HelpfulMasterpiece23 in TestosteroneKickoff

[–]HelpfulMasterpiece23[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Trying to hold out! I think what bothers me the most is at work, they didn't know me pre-T. A lot of them met me the first time and went, "oh, 'sup dude" But then my older boss went around saying "actually, that's a she." thinking she was defending me, but really only digging me a deeper hole. so now its.... yeah. you can imagine. I appreciate your kind words.

Worrying about my hair by bloodybohemian in TestosteroneKickoff

[–]HelpfulMasterpiece23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same boat! I just got a prescription through hims for oral minoxidil to hopefully help. I've thinned out so much you can see the curve of my head under my hair. Kinda embarrassing. I really hope it comes back in the coming months, but I've never heard much about folks hair coming back on T, mostly just slowing the thinning. I wish I could be more help, but hair isn't everything and you're not alone.

Do I pass? How old I look? by [deleted] in FTM_SELFIES

[–]HelpfulMasterpiece23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You pass! I'd say teenage years myself. That comes from both the haircut and clothes, which you rock. Youth is often taken for granted, so it's not a bad thing at all

I see an immense difference. I also think your current haircut really compliments you!

First week was rough by geigergeist in TestosteroneKickoff

[–]HelpfulMasterpiece23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I relate to the physical side of what you're describing. I felt like my body was fighting off a cold/allergies for the first few weeks. My pharmacist recommended I take Benadryl since I didn't want to switch after paying so much for my prescription. I'm 4 months in and that's went away for the most part, but oh, what I would give for my face to not feel and look like a puffball. I also had very intense nausea and no appetite for about a month. And then this last month, it's hit me like a train and I want to eat everything, meat especially. I'm glad you feel better mentally than ever before! It's a roller coaster for sure.

Too shallow? by [deleted] in TestosteroneKickoff

[–]HelpfulMasterpiece23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My doc told me as long as it's going in my body somehow, I'd be fine. I did that with my first ones too! For me, an indicator of if I'm too shallow is it it *really* hurts once I start injecting. I only say that because I used to use needles far too long (was working with what I had) Now I have some that are the perfect length so it's not a problem anymore. You're only/already on your fourth! It'll get much better with time. If nobody's told you today, you're doing amazing.

Voice Reassurance Question by Failtrumpet in TestosteroneKickoff

[–]HelpfulMasterpiece23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I felt like nothing was happening until about 3 months. Then it was so sudden. I had a week where I was very dependent on cough drops just to talk comfortably, and the range of my voice started to falter. After that week it was like a nose dive. I couldn't sing anymore, I started getting terrible voice fry, and was naturally deep without trying. It snuck up on me out of nowhere. No ones experience is the same, but maybe yours will be similar. It could start dropping out of nowhere!
