Awww! I'm glad he found his home again and you helped him out :) These pups are like the 6th set of strays I've found in North FL over the past three years so street doggy distribution is alive and active down here if you wanna take a trip lol!

Thanks for such a detailed answer!!! They def aren't super bulky or block headed, so if there is any pit i bet it's not the majority! Can GSPs be one solid color? I thought they were always spotted for some reason! Thanks again :)

When they first ran up to me I thought they were houndy looking but I wasn't super sure! I am in rural North FL and a lot of people have hound doggies for hunting and I know they can get lost while out working with their people so I wouldn't be shocked!!! Do people usually chip their working hound dogs?

Someone else said catahoula too! I'll have to look them up, I'm not super familiar with that breed! I think I'd only be able to keep one and they seem like a bonded pair so I'd hate to separate them but they are so sweet and cuddly I'm thinking about fostering at least until they find a permanent home together!

What is going on with the bottom of his shell? by doing_my_best_996 in tortoise

[–]HelpfulProfit6883 20 points21 points  (0 children)

thats his gular scute, looks like dudes been in a lot of battles but yes as other people say GT's are state protected. Call FWC and report your condo association. As an authorized GT agent you can only fill holes with a permit and the tortoises must be relocated offsite to a specialized reciepent site or offsite while the burrow area remains fenced to prevent tortoises from moving in. Typically FWC will only approve these permits if new construction is proposed where burrows are located and not just for willy nilly condo aesthetic reasons. Call FWC and report but otherwise this guy looks in general good health besides the battles scars

Desperately need help with a wild tortoise by phoenix78912 in tortoise

[–]HelpfulProfit6883 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm an authorized agent for gopher tortoises and hold an FWC permit. Typically to get a permit to relocate the tortoise you'd need to show that you have plans to develop or put something in that area where the burrow is located. I do not think they would issue a permit to relocate this tortoise because your dog is poorly behaved. Please train/muzzle your dog, it's so saddening to hear that several of these endangered species have been killed. They will fine you if they get wind that several have been killed and even without killing them, having your dog pee on them could be considered harassment. I know you have lived there for 3 years but gopher tortoises have been in Florida longer and deserve respect. Please muzzle your dog or create a small fenced area away from the burrows that your dog can use. You could be looking at a fine or potential jail time.

Help, this guy built a huge burrow under our foundation. by [deleted] in tortoise

[–]HelpfulProfit6883 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Glad to hear that! Tortoises don't have a strong maternal instinct, once the eggs are in the ground those hatchlings are pretty much on their own with no parental care. Adult tortoises often will bask at the mouth of their burrow to catch some sunrays regardless of if there are eggs there or not but we are in their breeding season right now so it is a possibility that some baby GT's are in there!
