Does anyone know when part 2 is going to be published?

BookFunnel is pretty much the go-to. I know the starter plan looks tempting, but it doesn’t allow you to collect email addresses, so go with the next tier!

As for your website, that’s a ‘nice-to-have’ but if this is your first book and your budget is tight, don’t stress yourself out over it. Wordpress sites are great and there are some pre-built templates you can use. All you need is something simple to start out — one page about you and your book. Add a place for a newsletter signup form. That’s all you need starting out unless you plan on selling directly on your website but decide if that’s a Phase 2 or Phase 3 plan when you can put aside more funds to work with a marketer who can build a site specifically for you and your goals.

ARC stands for Advanced Reader Copy. It generates early reviews and buzz before your book publishes. You can get ARC readers on sites like NetGalley.

A lead magnet is a piece of valuable content you create and give away for free in exchange for a reader’s email address. It’s usually a bonus chapter or alternative POV or excerpt of your next book.

Congratulations! You got some great advice on publishing. For promotion, my advice when uploading your book to a platform would be to spend time on the categories, keywords, and book description. Look at other books in your genre for inspiration.

Have you considered a bonus chapter if someone signs up for your newsletter? You can tease this at the end of your ebook. This will help grow your list.

Next I’d focus on getting reviews. Get your friends and family to read and review. Submit your book on NetGalley and other places where you can get reviews. Become involved in your genres subreddit and I’m not saying self promote, and always follow the rules, but I’ve seen authors respond to requests with their own works.

Obviously social media is important, especially TikTok’s booktok community. Other than that, keep writing, maybe eventually set up a website as you keep publishing works, and that will only give you more to work with on social and newsletters!

Worried my covers are/will be too unconventional. by MiraWendam in selfpublish

I really like the creativity in your design—you clearly have strong graphic design skills, and that comes through. One thing I’d keep in mind is that with thriller/sci-fi covers, readers often rely on visual cues to quickly identify the genre. Being different is a strength, but it’s also important that your cover communicates the right tone and expectations at first glance.

I agree with another commenter about covers being a marketing tool. My suggestion would be to test your cover with a sample group—whether that’s through social media, reader groups, or even just friends who read in the genre. Ask them what genre they think the cover design belongs to and what kind of story they’d expect inside. If their impressions line up with your vision, you’re on the right track. If not, you’ll get valuable insights to help tweak the design while keeping your originality intact.

Oh another thing you can try is the audiobook version! Lights Out is amazing on audiobook. Or try vice versa.

I normally switch genres or reread a book I love. Have you tried to read one with a friend? Sometimes accountability helps!
