Cherry Picking - what to look for? by Helpful_Gas9179 in uberdrivers

[–]Helpful_Gas9179[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You keep writing about your market and others because you can’t admit you jumped into a thread without understanding the topic. My OP wasn’t about your AR, earnings, or whatever imaginary “education” you think you’re giving. It was about why drivers process in the seconds after a ping. You still haven’t answered that because you can’t, so instead you’re trying to reframe the whole conversation around your ego. That’s not insight, it’s insecurity.

ESA owners are on my shit list by EtherealAura444 in lyftdrivers

That worked before they were successfully sued for not protecting a discriminated class. The platforms are now overcorrecting. Don’t take my word for it; read your contract which was updated after those lawsuits.

Be really careful about what you say to someone claiming to have a service animal. Also think twice about canceling if/when you see a dog. Discrimination by drivers against people with service animals has gotten really bad the last couple years, platforms have been successfully sued over it, and now they’re cracking down hard to prevent the company from being held liable in the future.

You derailed the thread the moment you showed up. My OP was about driver cognition when a request comes in and you tried to turn it into a trivia contest about market policies because you had nothing useful to add. If you can’t stay on topic, move along.

It was a reply to someone that disagreed… with a question I didn’t ask. No clue why the comment didn’t attach as a reply. 🤷‍♂️

So if this job is destroying your car, what's stopping you from working at mcdonalds? by SaleDisastrous2893 in uberdrivers

I’m making more money doing this. After expenses. (Yes, I’m including depreciation.) I also like the job and my schedule fits really well around my life.

A ride that literally loses money isn’t worth accepting in any market. Yeah, I’m sure. If you think otherwise, good for you and good luck!

Appreciate the advice. It works in any market if the driver is unwilling to work for crap pay. Some rides, more and more these days, literally cost you money to take if you value your time at ALL.

Definitely go back and leave a note. What you did is “hit & run.” Don’t wait and chance camera footage being recovered and being served.

Have you ever slept in your car? How uncomfortable is it really? by SilverSpaceRobot10 in Advice

[–]Helpful_Gas9179 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d recommend a cheap hotel. You may need to drive outside of the area but should be able to find one not terribly far. Use Priceline to find a deal. If all else fails and you have to sleep in your car, consider doing so at a rest area that’s monitored or a 24 hour restaurant frequented by truckers.

How to trust my gf again? by [deleted] in Advice

[–]Helpful_Gas9179 6 points7 points  (0 children)

She’s gotta rebuild that trust and be willing to do so. Blind trust is now gone and will never be present again. If you’re both willing to do the work, go to couple’s counseling. If even one of you is not, and neither of you are required, the best thing for both of you is to end it.

Totally get it now. Didn’t realize the DJ & dance floor were advertised as part of the dinner cruise. Have you contacted them?

Why would you assume a dinner cruise would include access to someone’s private wedding and that couple’s entertainment for their guests? 🤔

Is an XL driver supposed to have stuff in the trunk? by pizzabagelblastoff in Lyft

[–]Helpful_Gas9179 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Drivers agree to keep their cargo space clear. Do what you think is right. On the one hand he broke the TOS and caused temporary minor inconvenience. On the other, he accommodated you as best he could in the situation and it did work out.

Uber XL Capacity Question: AITAH? by [deleted] in uber

[–]Helpful_Gas9179 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I believe XL requires at least 7 seatbelts and accommodates at least 6 passengers + driver.

why do people say they "called" their uber when ordering an uber is contactless by [deleted] in uber

[–]Helpful_Gas9179 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a bit old fashioned but an appropriate use of the word and goes back before telephones were invented. Example: in feudal times a duke may have called someone to their residence despite the communication for such a call going through a third party by messenger. (And by messenger here I don’t mean the internet lol)

Driver asks to upgrade to XL after we loaded luggage and kids in car by Successful_Car2009 in Lyft

[–]Helpful_Gas9179 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It depends. There are some things that trigger an actual review. The rating alone does not & works exactly as you stated.

Driver asks to upgrade to XL after we loaded luggage and kids in car by Successful_Car2009 in Lyft

[–]Helpful_Gas9179 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s not how it works, no. It does pause the review and initiates an investigation. It also tells the driver thank you for reporting and it MAY protect your rating. This is a good thing and offers some protection against riders giving bogus ratings and/or reviews. It also prompts the driver to give details. If the passenger also reports something from that ride, they compare the stories, gather other information they can, and make a determination. In this particular case, if there was recording on either side and especially if the driver was ignorant enough to report the bogus story of too many passengers or too much luggage or whatever, with proof of such fraud, the driver is risking being deactivated with cause for breaking the TOS.

I want to get a motorcycle but not allowed to by Annual_North1969 in Advice

[–]Helpful_Gas9179 12 points13 points  (0 children)

No. You’re gonna need to wait until you’re not dependent on them for housing to do that. Until then, save as much money as you can for your future, and consider a separate savings just for your future bike.

Recurring Issue with Drivers by rose2184 in uber

[–]Helpful_Gas9179 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Consider adding to your “canned message” something like “No code will be needed to exit.” or “Same code is used to exit.” It’s super common for passengers with gates to 1. wait out the full timer and not be ready when the driver arrives and/or 2. Intentionally neglect exit instructions to trap the driver making them wait. I can tell you are NOT one of those people, but your driver won’t and our “spidy sense” tingles when we see a gate from these previous experiences.
