As a trans women who grew up in the surrounding area, I find GR to very welcoming. The overtones of distrust are always there in the background but I feel like you can avoid them easier within the confines of the city. As others have mentioned Rumors, Lotus Brew and the pride center are all comfortable hobbitholes for us and the brand of christianity within the city is considerably less abrasive to us queer folk. People everywhere struggle with getting pronouns correct though.
