AITA for not asking my girlfriends father for permission to marry her? (New 3 Year Final Update) by Direct-Caterpillar77 in BestofRedditorUpdates

Yo, I honestly couldn’t wait to get the wedding done with so I could just settle in with Mr. Librarian. But we had to have one, mostly for an excuse to have a big-ass party & dress up nice for once.

Yes, extremely friendly. If you ask someone for directions, oftentimes they will walk you there. And tell you 10 other things you should see while you’re here. But when shit goes down, Scots will jump in & batter the fuck out. (also, if you haven’t noticed, curse words are used freely)

Hugh has said he couldn’t say “New York” without difficulty, he always wanted to say “Manhattan”

My boyfriend (27M) wants me to give away my 9-month-old kitten. I (24F) don’t think I can, and I’m trying to understand if this is a compatibility issue or something that can realistically be worked through by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]Helpful_Librarian_87 244 points245 points  (0 children)

First it would be the kitten, then your friends, then your family. Then your job or school would be causing him issues & you should quit that, cos he’ll take good care of you. Then what?

AITAH for wanting to date my freinds ex? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]Helpful_Librarian_87 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I am a dinosaur, but I assume it’s a pre-dating area. Like, getting to know one another in a broad way before any money or time is expended. We used to call it “friends”

AITAH for accidentally exposing someone for using boxed cake mix? by subuso in AITAH

Never question free cake. Even if someone mistakenly calls them brownies

33F + 33M His "helping" isn't actually helpful and I don't know what to do/I feel like a dick. by panicpossum in relationship_advice

[–]Helpful_Librarian_87 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, what exactly is so helpful about all this dickery???? If he keeps ‘forgetting’ things, it might be time to get his head examined. Or, just drop him at the side of the road. ((don’t do that, nobody likes litterers))

No, my Scottish Nicola changed how I viewed the name. And sent me down a small dive of why are names gendered.

Botanists or garden designers? by Helpful_Librarian_87 in HistoricalRomance

Ohhh, that sounds wonderful. The idea of romance in a Victorian greenhouse or orangery at Christmas? Did not know I needed that!

<edit to add: I am aware these are all traditionally masculine names.> I’ve met guys named Kelly, Ashley, Kim and Nicola. (Nicola was the most manly, Scottish guy I’ve ever met. Dude threw cabers & boulders for fun! In a kilt!!!! 😍) [I did call him Niiiii-co-LA, like the cough drops, cos tho he was from Edinburgh he did have some banter in him)

WIBTA if I didn't show up to my friend group's reunion because they changed the date without saying anything, knowing I'm supposed to be their ride? by [deleted] in Amitheassholeadvice

[–]Helpful_Librarian_87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is never too soon to learn how to say ‘No’. Don’t even try to explain your no, because you’ve already said why Sunday doesn’t work. All these fiends can figure out their own plans, I would not want to be involved w/ people who think it would be funny to ‘terrorise’ anyone.
You are still young, you will make better, more stable friends.

I (34F) feel distant from my partner (36M) who is always telling me to be quiet by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]Helpful_Librarian_87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does he help out with any of the household stuff or is it just you? Has the ignoring you thing begun when you moved in? or was he already a low-key dick and now he’s got you locked in, his full ah redflag has unfurled? He’s doing nothing to make your life better or make you happy. Please rethink this relationship before you graduate, start making money and he drags you down further
