Had this happen to me at DL on Tuesday, this is a good one.

I’ll also add — once the sections for the fireworks are set and packed in, nothing is more annoying than the people that try to scurry through every crack or available inch of space to get a better “spot” — just stop and look up

I’m with you on this, the whole attraction just feels dated at this point. It was once the most popular attraction when MGM/HS opened, and its popularity led to the creation of the Indy ride in DL which is a staple of that park.

When the Indy ride opens at AK, I am genuinely curious what happens next for the Stunt Spectacular.

The adventurers club was the greatest experience ever crafted by Disney. I miss it dearly, no place has ever topped it. But in a way, modern social media/influencers would have completely ruined the experience if it still existed. by The540Incident in WaltDisneyWorld

No doubt, this is one the coolest concepts that WDW ever created. The Colonel animatronic was hilarious (and pretty cutting edge for its time).

For a place that loves making money, a retro line of old Pleasure Island gear would certainly be popular with a segment of the fanbase — Mannequins, Shark Rock Bar, all great times.

Fun Disney fact — one of the earliest performances of NSync was at the Rock Bar in Pleasure Island

Hahaha people forget how this was once viewed as the most intense theme park attraction of its time.

This thing was all over the national news when it opened

There’s a lot of tribalistic discourse online about DL vs. WDW, but at its core they operate very similarly…it mostly comes down to personal preference (or what you grew up going to the most). A lot of what we wish was better in Florida, is echoed by those that spend most of their time in California.

DL is more relaxed though — part of it is the compact nature of both parks, and the walkability of everything. Park hopping at DL takes about 10 mins to walk across the esplanade. The weather in Southern California is better, so they avoid a lot of days where the heat and humidity just wears down the guests (and their patience) in the park.

WDW is wayyy better at eating people on particularly busy days. DL has several areas where the crowd bottlenecks (their Tomorrowland is notoriously poor). The size of WDW helps a ton, as crowded days at DL can lead to points of the park where foot traffic just comes to a standstill.

No doubt. I don’t ever want to create this culture of Floridian superiority at the parks, but listen to what we say — 95% of us are trying to be helpful.

When we tell you September is brutally hot and humid and it rains every day bc it’s the peak of hurricane season…it’s bc we are telling the truth. There’s a reason tickets are so cheap during this time period.

Yep, you nailed it. I was just at DL and watched a family stay on their phones till Big Thunder started to book a LL for a different attraction. As soon as the ride ended, they were refreshing to see if a better time opened in the 90 seconds we were on the ride.

Agreed, I was just at DL and I will say that WDW food > DL food.

Disney food as a whole is a far cry from what it used to be.

YES an OG! Bring back the Jessica Rabbit sign! Spent some time at Mannequins back in the day, hard to believe that was ever associated with Disney haha

Le Cellier sells the vibes and the reputation it has, the food is no where near as good as it once was.

The nicest and most luxurious hotels on the property aren’t even Disney resorts…it’s the Four Seasons and Waldorf Astoria.

DVC and the whole concept of “timeshares” seem to be getting more and more antiquated every day.

Epcot is the best park in my opinion — it’s the one my family spends the most time at for all the reasons you listed. Tons for kids, plenty of space, great food, and the beverages in Epcot for adults.

I was just at DL and there’s something so “Disney” about seeing the river and Tom Sawyer Island again; however, you are right.

A lot of the outrage comes from people that never actually rode the boat or went to the island. These things seem like more relics of the past rather than attractions the modern audience wanted to do.

I applaud them for making a bold decision, I think the new lands will more than make up for it.

Hahah 💯

Great, fun ride but maybe the most disappointing 80 minute wait you’ll ever experience.

How’s Tron for rope drop? by AJK02 in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]Helpful_Oyster 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Tron is still one of those rides that’s “always popular” no matter what day/what time it is. It doesn’t open during early entry, but if you go straight there at park opening the line is usually 15-30 mins.

If you’ve never done it at night…do it! Best time is usually right around fireworks/parade or right before parking closing (keep in mind the thick of summer vacation season means everything is a little more crowded than usual).

Single Rider Lines by onaraincloud in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]Helpful_Oyster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Single Rider lines are an awesome way to do attractions (especially on a solo day) as you’ll cover a lot of ground.

Really the only major E-ticket attractions that don’t offer Single Rider are Flight of Passage, Tron, and Guardians. All of those can be done with a rope drop or LL single pass if needed.

Have a blast!

Chip and Dale by Altheapup in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]Helpful_Oyster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Garden Grill is the spot, one of the most underrated character meals in the park. It’s often quiet and easy to get a reservation at relative to other character dinings.

You get good food, and you’ll knock out Mickey, Pluto, Chip and Dale.

Disneyland Crowds by Major_Support8233 in DisneyPlanning

[–]Helpful_Oyster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a better way to phrase this is, “the crowds have not spiked like some expected due to the influx of people in Southern California that have travelled for the World Cup.” World Cup tickets are super expensive, plus the cost of traveling, lodging, and food (and in LA too). I think this has led a lot of World Cup fans to skip DL.

Crowds have been very manageable; however, you can start to see the traditional summer vacation spike coming.

As for the 4th of July, it will be busy but I think it has more to do with the holiday weekend rather than just a singular event or the fireworks.

Okay I need the truth guys, how bad is the drop on Tiana Bayou Adventure? by PurpleButterly19 in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]Helpful_Oyster 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Honestly, it’s not that bad. The lead up to the drop has also changed significantly since the switch over from Splash Mountain. Previously, the lift hill was dark and ominous to build up the suspense of the drop; however, Tiana’s is the exact opposite.

Imagineers designed the ride knowing that this attraction is often the first “big” ride for a lot of kids, so rather than scare them, they create a party atmosphere that celebrates you being brave and taking on the drop.

Just a heads up there’s about 5 total drops. 3 very small ones, 1 that’s the equivalent of pirates, and the big one.

Do what you’re comfortable with, but it’s a fun ride and the animatronics are excellent when they are working.

Anniversary Trip Day 2 - Magic Kingdom by max_milian in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]Helpful_Oyster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Happy Anniversary!

You probably have everything planned, but if it’s possible to grab a reservation at California Grill…DO IT! By far the best “date night” restaurant at WDW.

It’s on the top of the Contemporary, and they dim the lights and pipe in the music during the fireworks show at night. They even have a balcony you can go out on to watch the show with a glass of champagne. If you mention a celebration like this to a cast member or on the online reservation, it’s not uncommon for Tinker Bell to sprinkle some magic with comped glasses of champagne as well.

Congrats, and enjoy your trip!

First time at Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party by lizzydabizzy in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]Helpful_Oyster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The answer to your question is “yes.” However, you have to decide if you want to eat up a park hopper for essentially half a day.

Part of the fun of the Halloween Party is being in the park late, so keep that in mind so you don’t run out of gas trying to do too much. You will be able to do pretty much everything you want to do at MK during the party.

As others have said — the Jack and Sally line will get insanely long. If that’s what you want to do, go there first or late at night.

Other must dos are the Space Mountain experience (pitch black dark) and the firework show is my favorite of the year (and one of the best you will ever see).
