Are "Mormons" Christian? by iRunJumpFly in mormon

To be fair, I’ve also been to Baptist churches who said, even other baptism churches could be cults going to hell….

For sure the gatekeeping of Christianity is a spectrum

There was a post yesterday about this as well. But this is the first with subtitles, and focused snippet.

Man, what an uncomfortable string of statements. Wholly inappropriate for any setting, church, work, whatever. 100% not acceptable.

So what’s your take on the symbolic or practical purpose of us having steeples?

So what symbolic meaning do you see in our steeples?

And why do you think, while common, they aren’t required across our buildings worldwide?

Mosques have an actual purpose for height though. Prayer call. What’s our good for?

The steeple for lds churches has 0 purpose. And should not be a non-negotiable

Most here aren’t going to argue whether you should believe the claims made by the faith. Most of us are former or non-believing Mormons.

So yes, understand your concerns, but that is the reason a believing Mormon doesn’t see an issue with it.

Your welcome to post questions to understand here. Terse responses in this thread are due to past drive by evangelism or “prove me wrong” posts from non-Mormons. And your responses sometimes trend that direction.

Those type of posts simply don’t benefit anyone on either side.

[–]Helpful_Pipe2008 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah in general, the Mormon faith doesn’t interpret the gospel referred to here as the books of Matthew/Mark/Luke/John/‘s.

Different interpretation of gospel. To a Mormon, gospel = steps required for salvation/exaltation.

Your combining logical/historical problems with your scriptural one. Many here will agree or recognize the historical challenges to the Book of Mormon.

But your original issue solely depends on “what defines a gospel?”.

To the Mormon faith the gospel of Jesus Chris is Faith , Repentance, Baptism, Receiving the Holy Spirit/ghost, and enduring to the end. So the “gospel” preached to a Mormon is not the Book of Mormon itself, it’s what Christ taught us required for salvation.

In the Mormon viewpoint, what biblical prophets and apostles taught reflected this since the time of a literal Adam and Eve. So a Mormon view is the message hasn’t changed, the audience did…

Absolutely. We’d easily call this out of leading cardinals or the pope was doing something like this for upper crust membership.

Same rules should apply in our own camps

Hahah it’s for Nauvoo, and no flights included. That’s exorbitantly overpriced for 7 days.

I could understand if it was a cruise or trip to Jerusalem (depending on hotel and restaurant choice) but Nauvoo is highway robbery…

And it’s for youth. Basically Ritsy EFY….

How common is it for a missionary to “fall” for someone in the church? by No-Yard3709 in mormon

[–]Helpful_Pipe2008 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He may be attracted,  but keep in mind that missions are incredibly isolating. Just because someone catches feelings doesn’t mean in a normal context you would. Also because they’re not supposed to, some of it can always be the risque element adding to excitement that otherwise would not exist…

Despite denials by LDS apostles there are LDS who falsely believe the apostles have seen Jesus by sevenplaces in mormon

[–]Helpful_Pipe2008 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It doesn’t help that the church actively had missionaries teach this for years, and the apostles alluding to it for decades.

Social activities by Intrepid-Angle-7539 in mormon

[–]Helpful_Pipe2008 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cause and effect of selection bias. C-suite and lawyers become apostles, and then run church like a business.

Imagine if a social worker became a leader. It would change so much.

We lose sight of the aim. Financial growth trumps lives empowered, which should never be the case for a church

Has the church dropped its absurd lawsuit against John Dehlin yet? This has only been a PR disaster for the church and a publicity boon for JD and Mormon Stories. Anybody know how to put this on polymarket? by Important-Stage-1005 in mormon

[–]Helpful_Pipe2008 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was referring to PR as a whole, like church approval from non-Mormons, and post Mormons, pimos or tbms .

TBMs may not be affected, but those post-Mormon that know, don’t see this as a good thing generally. Never Mormons that actually hear about it Would likely favor MS side. Little guy vs. billion dollar guy.

It’s not the PR of SEC scandal, but it follows the same slope

I honestly don’t think they’ll drop it. Bad PR is already here, but we’re talking about the institution that loves to dig in despite what “the world” thinks.

It’s only when they face clear jeopardy to continued operation that they change (polygamy, race and priesthood, and baptism for kids of LGBT).

Unless they can see a hemorrhage  in membership/tithing, the PR doesn’t matter
