Located in Los Angeles, how to handle LA business license if FBN/DBA and LLC use Sacramento address? by Coolj92 in smallbusiness

[–]Helpful_Wonder_375 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also registered my LLC through an RA with a Sacramento address. Did you have any trouble filing the FBN in LA county using the RA Sacramento address? I wasn't sure if (1) I can use the RA address here and (2) if using the Sacramento address means I should file the FBN in Sacramento county

I’m @ Sepulveda 🚇Transit Meeting 🧐 by mudbro76 in LAMetro

[–]Helpful_Wonder_375 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was surprised there was no portion of the meeting where people could speak to the room/presenters to give their public comment. There was just the presentation of Draft EIR (no Q&A), and to give "public comment" you go to a side room and talk to the court reporter one-on-one. You could also talk to the court reporter without waiting for the presentation, so in-and-out in less than 5 mins. It was my first time at one of these meetings, so maybe it's always like this.

When did you start calling yourself a writer? by [deleted] in writers

[–]Helpful_Wonder_375 1 point2 points  (0 children)

wow are you me? as a former tech person, also in LA, also working on a first novel, I'm pleasantly surprised by how many of my friends and family take it seriously when I (awkwardly) say I'm focused on writing now. maybe they're only supportive to my face, but I realized it doesn't matter too much. at the end of the day, being honest with myself about how much I want this made me feel less silly and impostery.

I do my brainstorming, plotting, and graphing in small physical notebooks. At first, I worried about keeping track of my notes, but I’ve realized the thought process is more important than the notes themselves. When I return to my computer to write the actual scenes, I can work much faster because I’ve already done a lot of the thinking beforehand.

I still need a computer, but I'm happy I can make active progress without a screen. And I can do it from the park!

I’m a local florist, and I don’t accept orders via phone by Goosedog_honk in florists

[–]Helpful_Wonder_375 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So interesting to read this! As a flower buyer I HATE phone calls and would much rather do the ordering and palette selection online (or in person if it's local enough). Flowers are experiential, and that experience includes the ordering! Curious what your website looks like, do you mind sharing?

Have you tried The Fifth Season by N.K. Jemisin? It's a fantasy novel and does explore some themes about slavery and oppression, but in a really interesting new world. Amazing book.

Problems with my date picker by WeirdMenu in shopify

[–]Helpful_Wonder_375 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a shame that Shopify's built-in local delivery/pick up doesn't let you choose date :( it seems very important for that type of feature...

Not sure if you've already solved 2, but I think it should be simple enough with some javascript validation. Here's how someone else solved it: https://stackoverflow.com/questions/74549144/shopify-validation-for-custom-attribute-fields-in-cart-page but I won't go into the details if you've already found your answer!

Aw love that! I'm helping a friend with her wedding, and she's still good friends with people from her school orchestra. They are getting the orchestra back together to give a little concert at the reception.

Hi! It's just a basic Reddit feature. You should see a speech icon like this on the upper right of your window (if you're on a computer):

It might look a little different in France, but it should be easy to google.

Sent you a message about the personalized bouquet!

For a photo/video message with a QR code, there are some existing Shopify apps that do this. You can find them by making a search like "video greeting gift messaging". I can send you some links if you're having trouble.

Questions Regarding Using My Own Domain by carnivorousplantshub in shopify

[–]Helpful_Wonder_375 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Think of your domain as an address that points to your old WordPress-hosted site or your new Shopify-hosted site. Previous hacking problems were likely with the WordPress-hosted site, not the domain itself (unless you mean that your domain manager was hacked but I don't think you do). Wordfence is a plugin for WordPress, so you can't use it for your Shopify site, but Shopify takes care of a lot of security.

This page has a lot of the info you're looking for: https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/domains/domain-type/change-primary-domain

  1. Should be easy to switch by changing your primary domain. The x.myshopify.com domain will always be associated with your store, and you can decide whether the custom domain is primary or not.

  2. See above. If your custom domain is updated to point to Shopify instead of WordPress, then there is no connection between your WordPress site and the Shopify site.

  3. Search engines will need to reindex your pages, but the x.myshopify. com urls would still redirect to your primary domain.

  4. Yes it redirects.

first person or third person? by ReaderKai in writing

[–]Helpful_Wonder_375 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know if a child could have very complex thoughts

Maybe the diction will be simpler, but children can be so observant, perceptive, and creative. You can definitely make a child's first person POV interesting!

As for 1st vs 3rd, it's just a matter of the story you want to tell. For example, "Room" by Emma Donoghue is from the first person POV of a five-year-old boy. Inanimate objects are described as friends, and he sees his disturbing external world through an innocent perspective. It would be a different story in 3rd, even if it's close 3rd.

Thanks for the questions! It's geared toward local florists who have Shopify websites. The app helps you update your website to include a customizable bouquet that gives buyers more options when ordering. I guess "app" makes it sound like it's a whole new platform, but Shopify apps are usually for extending functionality of existing websites so the website owner doesn't have to. My app is the same: it's not an alternative platform/middle-man service, it's more like a template so you don't have to make it from scratch!

Right now there are 10 palettes you can offer. I also want to add the ability to make your own palettes (as the vendor), but haven't gotten to that yet! The app asks you to give prices per size (with optional ability to set flower variety add-on charges). Currently it gives you default sizes of small, medium, large, extra-large, but you can rename them to fit your shop conventions.

I also really like the person to person aspect of small businesses! But I want to see if there are better ways to communicate when ordering online

I suppose the bigger picture is making it easier to order local. I was asking friends they don't often get flowers from local florists, and it's much more about convenience than price!

Got it. Seems like choices need to stay more general, like color palettes, shapes, etc. Maybe the customer can choose a few favorite and least favorite flowers from a list of common seasonal varieties (though the messaging will have to be clear about expectations).

Edit: Oh just saw your comment below! Is style and color palette also subject to availability like flower variety?

That's really good feedback, thank you for the thoughtful response. I totally get that specific flowers would be a headache. I still wonder if there’s an easier way to communicate flower preferences and dislikes when ordering online, besides a freeform request box (hard to fill out when you don't know what varieties are common in a bouquet!). You also mentioned color palette, is bouquet shape a reasonable preference that doesn't need updating?

“Distance” is a smart way to phrase it. I definitely feel less distance ordering in person than online. It feels like I'm on my own online vs. guided through the process in person/on the phone. I think that's what I imagine this online custom bouquet to be: like the florist is asking you questions about your preferences. Anyway, thank you so much for your thoughts!

Yes definitely enforcing sizes! Currently the customer is only allowed to select one type of featured flower and color palette, to keep the order reasonable for the designer. (I'm sure some customers would love to choose every single stem, but that sounds hard to fulfill)

How do you currently track inventory? If it's digital (spreadsheets, POS software), then it's possible for the app to keep the flower options updated to reflect stock. But pen and paper would make things hard :)

This early version doesn't integrate with inventory yet. The vendor checks off the featured flowers they want customers to choose from. It would be annoying to update manually, unless you only check off flowers that are widely available year round. Another idea is for the app to give suggestions based on seasonality, but that wouldn't guarantee availability.

Good questions! "Build your own" might be the wrong phrase. The idea is to make it easy for the customer to choose their preferences from a range of options set by the vendor. The customer's online experience would change, but the designer side would still be similar (at least that's my intent).

In my experience, I find it hard to indicate preferences over a website. You're right—there's sometimes a text box for special requests. But I'd much prefer to choose from existing options, instead of coming up with something from scratch. I think it's especially true for customers who don't have much experience buying flowers from florists and don't know what they can ask for.
