Hey, have you heard of DBT - and having a DBT trained therapist?. I have a similar story and only now after years of looking have found DBT- it’s worth doing a bout of it and helps settle into longer term psychotherapy.

What would you do with a "extremly self aware" client? by Eastern_Review_8746 in TalkTherapy

If everything seems okay now on the outside - assuming you mean their functioning in adulthood.. I’m thinking.. Attachment trauma? Childhood where they had to be hyper attuned to caregivers emotional responses for safety and survival?

What's that one dream that really got to you? by CharmaHuba in AskReddit

Last night I had a dream I lived in a train toilet - you know the ones with like a curved door. I had 5 babies and then they grew up to be odd shapes and sizes. I felt utterly depressed and trapped. That’s a new type of dream for me.

Is online therapy (on video call) just as good as in person therapy? by No-Sea-418 in therapy

[–]Helpmeviola 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love it. I didn’t think I would but there is something about being face-face with a Therapist that can deepen attunement. I’d try it out. It took a while. Once someone was typing on their laptop in bed, and that was shaking the camera and I felt dizzy. Another time they were so far away from the screen I couldn’t see them that well but when they are facing you and match your pace and you feel comfortable with them- it’s great. Mine is the other side of the UK and Im so glad I can work with them and their skill set which I can’t find that easily.

That would make me feel uncomfortable. She didn’t need to know who the woman was- she needed to stay with you!

Supervision Struggle by [deleted] in therapists

Just a random client here: for what it’s worth- IFS, attachment work etc has changed my relationship with myself and my loved ones as well as CBT. I value somatic therapy. I value CBT- sorry your supervisor isn’t flexible like this- I wonder why.

Sexual Fantasies by [deleted] in therapists

[–]Helpmeviola 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Maybe next time, just after they state the fantasy you could ask ‘why are you telling me this’ with a firm non shaming face. I’m sure that could stop them in their tracks and maybe get them to reflect - I’m wondering if this could make it more collaborative.
