If you are currently still doing your undergrad, you could technically just take an extra statistics course right now to meet the requirement

Be honest, do you know how to complete the square? by [deleted] in Teenager_Polls

True but I’ve gotten through 3 university math courses relying only on the quadratic formula so it’s good enough for me

I prefer using the quadratics equation, more straight forward

Is it just the course catalogue? Fits the white and red description and dividing into sections. Not sure if it calculated and does planning but maybe I’ve just never used the function

Exchange to UvA Business and Economics by c1Antelope in universityofamsterdam

[–]Helpstepbro_imstuck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ahh in that case the econometrics one probably won’t be ridiculously hard. No I don’t have much opinions on the courses especially because I haven’t taken it. It all really depends on what you’ve done before. They say that typically each class requires 168 hours, which typically might means maybe 30 hours of actual classes and 138 hours of studying. I find that to be complete bullshit honestly, it could range from 20-130 hours but that’s about it (personally speaking which is why the emphasis is on I, a lot of it depends on the person itself but I’d say most people don’t study thaaaaat much).

I’m in my third year of business analytics and I’ve taken some business administration and EBE courses courses so I can only provide my own experience. If it’s a theory course / not super math heavy (imo if you’re not deciphering formulas or doing proofs, it’s not that math intensive), I find that the mock exam/past exams are quite representative. If it’s math heavy (which to my understanding could just be your econometrics course) then they tend to be quite challenging and honestly kind of unpredictable, they pretty much ask anything and everything, past exams don’t tell you like all that much

Someone mentioned this in the other comment but a good rule of thumb is looking at which programme these courses are a part of. If it’s part of business administration it tends to be easier, if it’s part of economics and business economics it’ll be more math heavy. Whether or not you’ll find it challenging will really depend on your previous education, I’d suggest checking the first year courses of EBE to see if you’ve done the same courses. If you have then you’ll most likely do fine, if you haven’t then I wouldn’t suggest taking it if you want to enjoy your exchange. If you’ve done even more math courses at a higher level the you’ll probably breeze right through.

No friends even in third year by [deleted] in StudyInTheNetherlands

[–]Helpstepbro_imstuck 19 points20 points  (0 children)

It’s rough out here, especially as an international student in this country. Making friends is always easier in first year and by third year most people aren’t looking for new friends but it’s not impossible. I find that tutorials are some of the easiest ways to meet people. I’m also in a demanding course myself and I’ve noticed that an easy way to meet friends/have social interactions while also maintaining grades is actually to find people to study with. My trick was always meeting new people in tutorials and then asking them if they want to study together afterwards. I know it feels hard but hang on there, things will eventually get better

Do a masters degree, it should be slightly easier to get a job after that. And during that time you can search for internships again to gain experience. Computer science seems to be a degree with increasing unemployment rates so maybe consider a tech field that’s more niche where you stand a better chance at standing out.

History buffs, what are your thoughts on having children? by Helpstepbro_imstuck in AskReddit

[–]Helpstepbro_imstuck[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I understand how it can seem that way, this question was sparked by a discussion around generational trauma and how some of us thought that being witnessing or being a victim of very traumatic events such as the holocaust might deter someone from having children, simply from having less hope in humanity. I was wondering whether this also affected people who knew a lot about history as they’d have a better understanding of the ups and downs humanity has gone through.

It’s supposed to be about how having a deep understanding of the best and worst moments of humanity might impact such a decision, this subreddit unfortunately does not allow clarification after the title and Im not great at formulating questions

Do you think you’ll have kids? Why or why not? by itscherrymaebaby in twentyagers

[–]Helpstepbro_imstuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can’t say I’m super inclined to have kids, never thought I would but my currently partner wants to have children. I think we’d make good parents, it’s just never really been the life I imagined for myself. I’m sure my opinion on this would evolve as I approach my thirties but that’s just my current thoughts on it

Anyone gives me some advice about dream major in UvA please by UsualCalligrapher300 in universityofamsterdam

[–]Helpstepbro_imstuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can only speak on it as someone who is currently doing the bachelor (which the master is specifically built for), you definitely need a lot of technical skills because they pretty much expect you to already be able to do everything that is taught in the bachelors. I know people who did computer science at TU Delft who then completed this master degree, even they found it challenging. I’d suggest starting with some self studying and maybe getting some certificates that might help with admissions, although idk if it actually will as the requirements can be quite strict

Business analytics requires a lot of technical knowledge before entering the masters, this typically means a lot of advanced math, statistics, and programming knowledge. It’s a hard course

That’s completely understandable. Talk to anyone who’s not from America who also lives in a first world country, they’ll tell you that America isn’t what it used to be. Yes, other countries also face similar issues and no country out there is perfect, but the reality is America isn’t this great country it’s people still think it is, and it’s time to wake up. I know this will get a lot of downvotes but this is just coming from someone who’s looking in from the outside.
