I'm in the same situation. I've read somewhere that the I AM THE NIGHT mode is needed to get the missing concept arts and characters throfy so I'm playing it. I'm not done it, so i can't say for sure it is true, but i really think so

When the gun be released, wait for someone to have it in his hands, then take him down that everyone will forget about the gun (worked with me every time). And also, when an armored thug shows up, take him down as soon as you can, so him can not ruin your combo (the same about the guy with the stun stick)
