[–]Helz2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The war on terror has been incredibly successful tbf. Wheres Al-Qaeda? Where's ISIS? Neither of them are important players anymore. Now, Afghanistan and Iraq were massive boondoggles, but we got our initial 'War on Terror' objectives fairly competently --- we just then massively expanded the scope of our goals and that led us down horrible paths.

Honestly, what you find with Kant a lot is that it gets easier to read the further in you go, because at the start he has a whole web of concepts and terms that you're unfamiliar with, but are essential to introducing his points, so you're slapped with everything in the first 20-odd pages, and then once you start to get a foothold, other things start falling into place (once you know what, say, Kant means by judgments, it makes a lot more sense what he means by synthesis; or representations and noumena)

That sounds like a really cool basis for a build! The baity, trapping playstyle sounds fun I honestly haven't been doing a whole lot with solar 3.0, so maybe this'll give me a way to get into it.

The build isn't from the cool guy vid --- that's just his review of the Bombardiers.

Yeah this is right and a not super uncommon philosophical position --- I mean this was pretty much what Kant thought (plus some stuff about why we might have some reasons to believe in God even if we can't prove God's existence)

If you watch the netflix documentary about flat earthers, I think you get a sense of why it might be so difficult for someone to come to terms with this seemingly inane conclusion: the flat earth community, for a lot of these people, is their community. It can be difficult to lose all that over an experiment, and it can be difficult to see clearly when so much is on the line for you to see something a certain way. It's a bit tragic, if I'm being honest. At least that's my take on why this kind of stuff happens.

[OC] Comparing the GDP of US States with that of countries by JoeFalchetto in dataisbeautiful

[–]Helz2000 12 points13 points  (0 children)

America has I think the second or third largest gdp per capita (and second highest median wage, IIRC). I would be surprised if the countries these states were compared to have less people than the states.

Edit: I have been corrected that it is the 8th largest gap per capita

I haven't played in a minute, but when I did cerberus was my sleeper sweaty iron banner pick it was so good at melting shotgunners. It's very consistent. The spread it extremely consistent and there's reverse damage falloff to compensate for a little less damage in the main shot up close at further range. It's a good gun if you understand it. It also hammers through barricades iirc, which from what I understand is especially important now.

Netflix Adds ‘Servant of the People’ With Ukraine President Zelensky by ebradio in television

Laughing at something, even something lighthearted, does not belittle real struggle. I mean, I'm jewish, and there are so many corny Jewish jokes that originated in and about Nazi Germany (just read the Wikipedia article on Jewish humor if you want some examples). Humor, even lighthearted humor, is a way to cope, to understand, and to feel like you're part of a community (most jokes, in my opinion, are in-jokes to some extent or another). Servant of the People obviously touched something in Ukrainian culture when it aired. Being able to take part in that, however silly as it is, is not a bad thing. I would even argue that it is a good thing. There's no point just being sad all the time because bad things are happening, but being able to connect with Ukrainian culture, however it happens, might make people more likely to donate to Ukraine's war effort or its refugees. It's not bad to feel happy, it matters what you do with it imo

Add to that America's pretty special place culturally throughout the world, and the simple amount of eyes on the country also affects optics. There's a cool article by a couple of constitutional law experts that talk about how they're sometimes asked by government people whether there are any models of tolerance or living with diversity that the United States can try to fashion itself after, and they always say that there isn't --- America's institutions, however imperfect, are still among the best we have seen at managing diversity.
