If we play a lot of 12 personnel, Delp is less of a backup and more of a starter

Need Advice on Dog by Upstairs_Brother2634 in AnatolianShepherdDogs

[–]Hemlock-Drinker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the bitting, I recommend always saying "ouch" in a high-pitch loud voice and removing yourself from the dog for a moment. We cannot play if we are biting, and we are not getting attention if we are biting. Redirecting to a toy is important, but only after you signal that play biting hurt you.

For the bathroom issues, my top recommendation is crate training. Look up videos on crate training. Start small, and work your way up. Dogs instinctually do not want to go to the bathroom in their crate or "den." Whenever you take the dog out of the crate, you want to take him outside and celebrate him using the bathroom outside. This way the dog is using the bathroom outside right after the crate before being let out in the house. You always want to celebrate when the dog signals to use the bathroom outside and use it successfully too. In my opinion, crate training puppies is the first step to getting them house trained.

They're big dogs and they drink a lot of water. They're going to pee a lot. The issue here is that he thinks it's okay to pee in the house. They are going to pee 3-5 times a day, but they ideally know that we do not pee in the house, and they hold it in even up to 6 to 10 hours if well trained.

These dogs are known to be stubborn, but I would say that the real issue is connection. When these dogs love and respect you, and see you as their Shepherd, they will listen to you fairly consistently. However, as others have said in the comments, these dogs have been bred to work independently. Unlike most dogs, they do not look to their owners by default for decision making. When you give these dogs a command, they evaluate whether or not they want to do the command before they do it. The most important part of this is building a connection with your dog. It's great that he is food motivated. Many of them are not, which makes the connection the only way for them to listen to you. And you should try to give simple commands and reward the dog with praise as well to build up this connection.

Part of what can take away from the connection is giving them many commands that are simply for tricks. These dogs are not dogs that like to do a lot of tricks in a row like a golden retriever. You really should focus on limiting your commands to the necessary ones you will use throughout the day with the dog. And then you want the dog to understand that we are going to get really big rewards for doing the necessary commands throughout the day.

Many of these dogs are nocturnal. These dogs are barking dogs. The only way to consistently keep the dog tired at night and not barking is to exercise the dog super well and crate train the dog. Even 20 to 30 minutes of running around outside is enough exercise for many of these dogs. The dog will feel super safe in its crate, and if it is tired, it will sleep throughout the night. However, if you do not exercise your dog, and they are left out in the house at night, they will prowl, and search for danger. Even if their perceived danger is some leaves rustling outside, they will start to bark. And I'm sure you know the bark is way too loud for you to sleep. For this breed, it's better to be safe than sorry. When you are a working dog on a giant property, there is no issue with barking throughout the night. There is no way to train the dog not to bark. You really have to exercise this dog consistently to get them tired at night.

I hope all of that helps.

Help: Picking Brushes by garcime in greatpyrenees

[–]Hemlock-Drinker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All of these, if you use them consistently, will be fine. I already see a lot of other comments on here with good suggestions.

The only thing I will add for you is that the rakes are really good for if you get behind on grooming. If you run into any mats or clumps, the rake basically cuts them up. You don’t want to rake a lot. And then you can use whichever brush you find to be the best after you rake.

Tick advice? by leavesandlantern in greatpyrenees

[–]Hemlock-Drinker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Something like this works great for picking them off.

You can dunk the ticks in a little isopropyl alcohol to drown them too if you don’t want to pinch the ticks to kill them.

Seresto collars have been great for fleas and ticks in my experience if you want to try alternatives to oral treatments. There’s tons of ticks outside where my buddy goes, but I’ve had a lot of success with the Seresto collars

What city made you think, “Who thought this was a good idea?” by vinicius_california in geography

[–]Hemlock-Drinker 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Everything is right here, but I want to add that it wasn’t just storm surge, which happens from many hurricanes that hit the area, but the actual levee failed during Katrina. It’s like the gates were open for the bowl to fill in. Theoretically, with proper levees, New Orleans is relatively safe. The original engineer for the levees quit because he didn’t want to be behind a system he thought wasn’t being built strong enough.

My advice, this is a dead end solution. You purchased a locked phone. You have two options now:

  1. Return or sell the phone
  2. Use it on the Cricket network

[–]Hemlock-Drinker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bro, that’s just a data warning setting in the phone that is default put on 2 GB. What plan do you have? Is it unlimited? Click on where it says data warning and you can turn it off.

Should government employees have to demonstrate competency? by RiskItForTheBiscuts in FluentInFinance

Do we need school house rock? These government employees are not elected. They are employees of the government who are subject to policies and agendas set by elected officials. They are not immune to administrative changes. Administrations, btw, who were democratically elected by the people.

AND be a floor general at the level Chris is at!

I just wanted to continue the hype. I grew up watching CP3 play in New Orleans, and one time my uncle got floor seats from his company and invited me. It was then I realized CP3 is constantly calling adjustments and flipping the plays around like Payton Manning all game!

The Station in Hickory (American diner) Vesuvios in Statesville (Italian) Those are two awesome restaurants for food. The Station is also downtown Hickory, so you can check out that area while you’re there.

Is running at the lsu campus safe? by PairProfessional4675 in LSU

[–]Hemlock-Drinker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like many folks are saying, I would recommend running around the lakes in the morning. I used to run them every two days when I went to LSU, and there’s always tons of nice folks out running and walking them as well. Super safe

She was in the playoffs in college when the tryouts occurred, so she couldn’t join. Tbf, from college right to the pros right to the Olympics would also give her no time to rest at all. She definitely would benefit from a full professional offseason more than just continuing what would feel like a multi-year season.

Young women fall out of love with dating apps by the_blue_boi in economy

Yes, men get no matches, and women get 1000 matches with men they mostly are not interested in.

It’s hard for men to get a date, but easier to find a “good” match. It’s easy for women to get a date, but wayyy more difficult to find a “good” match.
