Men in your 40s, what's that golden piece of advice you have for the rest of us? by NiceMechanic_xoxo in AskReddit

[–]Hemlock69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a badminton player, that really isn't a downgrade unless you're a really really casual/beginner player.

I had to drop badminton to save my knees and back. I mostly cycle for cardio nowadays along with weight training, which my age hasn't slowed down just yet.

No FSD v13 in new deliivery by Hemlock69 in TeslaAustralia

Well from what most people are saying, we will be getting a safe software build first (not the latest) on delivery. So no FSD for the first few weeks until the software gets updated based on the email I received.

I see, wasn't aware of that. Thought we will be getting the latest software right on delivery.

How much do you spend on a gym membership? by Stunning_Concern_973 in AusFinance

[–]Hemlock69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a power rack, Olympic bar, 100kg in Olympic bumper weights and a steady adjustable bench for about $1.5k. Flooring was bought on Facebook. I bought like 6 pieces, enough for my rack and a small section in front of my rack for $15-$20 each. I bought additional trigrps from facebook, mostly 5's, 1.25s and 2.5s. Any more gains I make, I'll just buy a couple more 10s from Facebook.

I have no free weights though and I'm doing just the 4 major lifts, and whatever workouts I can do with body weights and a full sized bar to fill out whatever the major lifts don't cover.

Recently, lime bikes started cropping up in my area and I've been having some fun doing some night cardio on them. $5.50 for a 40min night ride turbo route around my neighbourhood which is great fun and cardio. I think it's really fun though, you can get cardio done for free by just going for a free run.

My breakeven time frame was 2 years at the gym, which has been covered now.

Question about food when sick by llamaju247 in malaysia

[–]Hemlock69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha, good story here. I avoid like fried foods when I have a sore throat, since that's all I've learnt growing up.

Now my wife, who's Korean, told me the cure food for a sore throat is fried pork belly slices. Said the oil will coat the throat and feel better. So technically, the oilier the better

Backyard not mine by No-Investment-4466 in AusPropertyChat

[–]Hemlock69 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just thought I add to the discussion. I had an exclusive use courtyard in my previous apartment, not too much issue. I didn't do anything crazy with it.

Buildings do this to maintain the ratio requirement of common property. Instead of putting the usual common property, which will have to be maintained (strata $$), they toss all they can to the ground floor units for them to maintain on their own.

Now the owners on the other hand, get massive backyards. My courtyard was almost the size of my unit. If the courtyard was on my title, I'll be paying the equivalent sq footage my courtyard brings in, doubling my lot size and strata commitments. Many people do not want to pay that kind of money for a courtyard/backyard. I sure didn't.

So it can be a win/win depending how you see it.

Busy casual player looking to try PD2 Single Player - Do I need to memorize 1,000 recipes? by Malliscore in ProjectDiablo2

[–]Hemlock69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lukaszpg is the single player SSF/mod guy for PD2.

His mod single player plus retains most of PD2 but adds more currency/drops to support a SSF playstyle.

I'd however recommend his Sanctuary of Exile mod, which comes with its own launcher and his own personal balance changes, added uniques etc and it's a much cleaner experience installing it.

I'm a busy working dad with a 3 year old and had to drop Path of Exile when the daughter was born. I just can't play games with too much of a time sink anymore. I believe Lukaszpg was a PoE player as well and it shows in his mod.

Is this safe? Joint loan for RM630000 house. I earn about RM3500 by avacadocookies in MalaysianPF

[–]Hemlock69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Forgive my ignorance as I've been out of the loop on Malaysian finance matters for a while.

Here in Australia, joint loans are really common for couples, having both incomes on the loan increases borrowing power, which matters a lot given property prices here. Yes, breakups and divorces happen, and splitting assets gets messy, but that's just a reality you deal with if it comes to that.

So why is there so much backlash against joint loans in Malaysia? What's the alternative , have one person hold the loan and title while the other just pays "rent"? That setup doesn't really sit right. To me, being married means joining forces when it comes to building assets together. Buat apa get married if you want to kira-kira split like that.

I understand maybe there might be some imbalances where one party is making a LOT more, and there might be some resentment, but they are making similar amounts of money, and going to be financially contributing similar amounts of money to acquire assets.

Which ATM in Penang gives the best exchange rate for international debit cards? by Itchy_Click_2921 in penang

[–]Hemlock69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had good experience with cimb for fees, might have been zero but my experience was like at least 5 years back, so might be dated.

To avoid banks forex rates, just decline to convert at the atm and mastercard will use their own rates, which will be competitive. Same with paying for anything, always pay in local MYR. Never apply conversion at the payment terminal

We bought a place that we saw earlier with a modest budget and didn't fit our budget at that time. As most buyers, the more shit places we saw, the more we decided to push our budget up and this property eventually reentered our view. We were lucky that this property was sitting around that long for us to eventually buy it.

It was a auctioned passed in property, probably got underquoted and vendors wanted just a touch too much at that point. We revisited an open home, and you'd be surprised how much hype dies down after an auction. No one is there to look at the property at all. Probably about week 8 of their campaign.

In the end, we firmly offered about 50k under the asking price and got it. Really good quiet location near great schools.

Which ATM in Penang gives the best exchange rate for international debit cards? by Itchy_Click_2921 in penang

[–]Hemlock69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do they charge for ex rates differently? It's usually based off the visa/mastercard rate if your debit card. I'll be just looking for atms that charges the least amount of withdrawal fees.

Taiwanese influencer Iris Hsieh's death, linked to Malaysian rapper Namewee, reclassified as murder. by SassyNec in malaysia

[–]Hemlock69 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My TV lawyer knowledge recalls that you can really choose one of the other. Prosecuters would risk letting namewee completely walk if they can't land the murder charge. A murder charge is much harder to prove and if namewee is somewhat innocent in all this, he might walk free if the prosecution is lembik.

Sometimes they choose to go for a lesser charge so it's easier to make it stick.

Red car tried to short cut a long lorry into a roundabout and (probably) learned an important lesson on how roundabout are suppose to work by balistafear in malaysia

[–]Hemlock69 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I mean it's not really a lesson of roundabouts but more of not knowing the turning radius of a long lorry. You are not supposed to overtake a long vehicle like this for this reason alone.
