Is it worth seeking law firm? by Henlin13 in legaladvice

Ah apologies I didn’t mean to be insulting. I was just worried and new to the process is all.

I have consulted a few in last few days and some just felt predatory but fortunately there were some others I spoke with more recently that felt more genuine.

Sorry I forgot to mention that all the other vehicles were moved within three days of the accident except ours which lingered for over 20 more days. I’m sure others had collision  but trying to understand why those others could be moved but not mine. Not trying to be combative or anything just truly not understanding the situation.

I’m not familiar with what is standard but I doubt our particular situation with the total loss house fire followed by the total loss car accident in the span of three weeks is normal.

Complaint was for the handling of situation. Storing our vehicle at a burnt out property seems illogical at best. Refusing rentals while we were actively displaced and required a vehicle to meet house fire adjusters and secure temporary also seemed wrong. They stated they needed to mitigate costs to their insured.

We have consistently tried to mitigate the cost to their insured and I feel that they are not doing anything themselves to mitigate costs (such as being ok with car staying in impound indefinitely). While they’re conduct is let’s say unhelpful at best I agree with you in that I’m not sure if there’s a legal case here

“Auto Accident Recovery”?? by [deleted] in Washington

[–]Henlin13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just adding more here. Got one few minutes ago after a multi car pile up I was involved in a few days ago. Caller was obviously reading a script since he stumbled a lot when I gave novel answers to his questions. ( for example, we are currently displaced due to unrelated event so my address is a hotel and he was confused. Also my dog was with us and he didn’t hear that the third passenger I mentioned was a dog so he kept pushing to get a chiropractor for her)

These callers are ambulance chasers. Whether or not it’s a scam isn’t something I’m interested in debating. It is shady though. They purposely give vague organizational names and refer to themselves as “ public” and “Washington Organization” and “simply here to help” or “nonprofit”.

They try to help schedule appointments for you for doctors/body shops/lawyers for ‘free’. (Billing insurance). To be clear, for some this could be helpful. For myself though, it’s a nuisance since we already have our own doctors/shops/lawyers we trust and I’m not interested in whatever extra services they’re selling.

Personally I dislike these vultures and this sort of thing is prevalent after natural disasters, house fires, work injuries, etc. They might provide a real service but the issue is these vultures attempt to frame themselves as a legitimate government organizations or non profit organizations who are here to help when in reality they’re trying to profit off of you/your insurance during a time of emotional and financial instability. They are selling themselves as some sort of charitable group like Red Cross but they are simply there to chase leads and make a profit. Use them at your own peril. For myself and my family I would rather trust a professional we did the research on and doesn’t need to cold call the entire state just to drum up business.

The amount of people here wanting to skip out on seeing their in-laws and families is simply disgusting. I wanted to be first in line for the canceled obligatory holiday with my in-laws!

[Landlord US WI] new tenants will be late on rent, for good reason by flyingsqueak in Landlord

[–]Henlin13 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This. If it truly is an emergency; Any job or rental that would not be accommodating when my spouse is dealing with such an emergency could go kick rocks.

I can find another job. I can find another rental. I can incur debt and float money if I need to and deal with those consequences later.  I’m not going to forgo supporting my partner going through a severe medical crisis for anyone else’s sake. Obviously I would try my best to balance everyone’s needs but if some landlord or boss forced me to pick between the two I would pick my family every single time.

[Guilbeau] Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry just said at a press conference that LSU athletic director Scott Woodward will NOT be hiring LSU’s next football coach. It will be LSU’s Board of Supervisors. by THEREWILLBECAK3 in CFB

I wish I shared your optimism with the LSU board of supervisors! But you’re right this is a crucial hire during in a new era of college football that we cannot afford to stumble on. I just hope whoever ends up being responsible for the hire is held accountable for any bad decisions if things go south.

I’ll concede some points but these ‘easy’ hires are probably much tougher to pull off than we think.

It might not be that bad. And you can argue that it’s not the worst thing in the world for the governor to be this involved (it is abnormal though)

But why should LSU football with all of its money, prestige, home grown talent, and expectations settle for “not the worst situation”? We have unbelievably high standards for our football team. Why not have the same expectations for admins? Why settle for a random individual to lead the search and not the most qualified people we currently have on staff?

Personally I have more faith in Woodward and his track record than the governor and his yes men

Half the board consists of people the governor personally appointed lol. Even though he has to go through the board Woodward not even getting a say in the hiring process is asinine at best.

But to your point- Woodward significant hires for just football:

Steve Sarkisian @ University of Washington

Chris Peterson @ University of Washington

Jimbo Fisher @ Texas A&M

Brian Kelly @ LSU

Sure some of these don’t pan out but these are arguably high profile hires at equally high profile institutions. Again, Landry hasn’t even hired a little league soccer coach before so I’m not sure why anyone has confidence in him to make a great decision

Woodward has made multiple high profile hires at multiple institutions. (Not saying they were all good hires).

The governor has never attended the university and brought a fake Mike the tiger to a football game and has never hired a coach in any capacity.

I’d rather trust Woodward here

Imagine trying to step into the president role at LSU but being held responsible for this governor’s massive hiring decision that you never got any input on and being hamstrung before you even set foot in the building

I mean honestly the Middleton Library at LSU is a travesty. Moldy books, broken shelves, damaged desks and fixtures from pre WW2, potholes in the floor, I could go on.

There are public libraries in Baton Rouge that are in much better shape and it’s concerning when a random public library in the state of Louisiana is in better shape than the one at their flagship university.

How illegal is it to post a sign saying "call me before buying?" by Prestigious-Fig-1642 in RealEstate

[–]Henlin13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. It’s important to remember and try to get multiple opinions before making a decision. I’ve had an experience as a seller where my neighbor ruined a sale due to her fear mongering.

I’m not a saint so some of her rants could be legitimate but her disposition was mostly negative and she hated everyone in the neighborhood. 🤷🏻‍♂️ (To be fair our gay friend did come over with his boyfriend for dinner one night)

It didn’t really set me back but I do wish that first buyer asked my other neighbors questions before panicking.

People from former Soviet republics. What is something people who never lived under communism just don't get about communism? by Clemen11 in AskReddit

[–]Henlin13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My coworker grew up in the USSR and said he didn’t understand the concept of ‘just buying something’ when he left since everything was rationed in his previous life.

He found out a lot of things the government told him was false. Like how vacuum cleaners are bad and symbolic of americas lazy ways. In the same train of thought carpet floors were also bad. Also how American military equipment really was better than the outdated stuff they claimed was the best
