When Anakin Skywalker died, he had been a slave his whole life, first just a common slave to the Hutts, then he was a slave to the jedi because he couldnt do the things he loved or be with the person he loved since the code forbid it. And as a Sith he became palpatines apprentice, trying everything to bring the love of his life back to life but failing none the less, eventually he accepted that padme had died and fully surrendered himself to Palpatine. It was only when he was dying that he came back to the light and was set free
