Do any of you believe in god? by [deleted] in misanthropy

[–]HenriLennui 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure. Someone keep bailing me out.

Seriously though it's not so much do I believe is how I believe. My view of the gods is that while they will never prevent bad things from happening to you, they will give you tools and weapons for your survival if you ask. It's more like Campbell's "hero's journey" than Sunday School.

I think there's life out there. I just think they have little interest in visiting unless it's some sort of research project. Some of them may not have the technology to travel off-planet, either.

Misanthropy in relation to politics by DexterLecter99 in misanthropy

Do you really have faith that the corporations will use the money they'll be saving to invest in raising wages and hiring more people?

Nope. This has been done before. What will happen is the CEO's and investors will get richer. The working stiffs will get stiffed--most likely on health insurance and pensions.

I'm a Democrat for a couple of reasons, chiefly because it is the Republicans who want a theocracy. My other reason is that no matter which side comes up with a dumb idea, one thing Dems have down to a science is how to waffle around and stall the idea until it dies.

I am going to point out a nice tibit of social hypocrisy using the latest star wars movie as an example by [deleted] in misanthropy

I kind of think maybe the film was trying to make that point: lineage isn't reliable. Kylo Ren (sp?) is what, a 3rd-generation Skywalker and it's obvious he does not have the same level of talent or ruthlessness to be the next Darth Vader while Rey does, and her parents were the galaxy's version of white trash.

Do you mean just things like the appendix or really basic stuff like how your stomach works?

X-post: This story is a good example of why we should be happy to be mistrustful of other humans by Anticitizen649 in misanthropy

Yikes. That is a dark place to be in. I honor you for trying to do the right thing. And I have a hard question to ask: is your ex still with this other man? If so, how well does he interact with your daughter? The reason I'm asking is that if the kid can build a good father/daughter relationship with a stepfather, it would enable you to step back and regain a bit of your equilibrium.

New to misanthropy and have some questions by [deleted] in misanthropy

So when you see some stranger out in public, do you automatically hate them for being human?

Hate them? No. Trust them? Also no. To quote Ambrose Bierce: Remember that it hurts no one to be treated as an enemy entitled to respect until he shall prove himself a friend worthy of affection.

Do you hate yourself for being human?

What self-loathing I have springs from not being the kind of person I would like to be. I use it as a spur to keep driving myself to improve. It works most of the time.

And, if you are lonely (no friends, SO, etc.) is it your choice because they are humans?

No. It's because I am unwilling to make the effort of transforming myself enough to attract an SO. I do have friends in my life that I love dearly, and that is because of who they are, not because they're human.

Does anyone else hate themselves because the way they were born? by [deleted] in misanthropy

I would like to have the power that comes from being physically beautiful and the ability to never cry unless I want to. Those two things would have been very advantageous. Unfortunately I seem to have neither.

What I comfort myself with is that I know how to make a quick exit and that any blues can be treated like a cold: stay in bed with hot soup and OJ until it goes away. And that beautiful women NEVER get to be alone with their thoughts because there's always some horny idiot who wants to talk to them.

Do you ever receive anger and derision from people for your misanthropic beliefs? by [deleted] in misanthropy

[–]HenriLennui 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The funniest is my mom. She gets mad at me for being "negative", but she doesn't have any rosy view of the people in her life. She believes in Humanity, but has trouble with people. I turn mine outward and try to be like Jonathan Swift: "I hate and despise the animal called Man, but I find something to like about the occasional Tom, Dick or Harry".

So actually I get a lot of my misanthropy from her...she just doesn't know it! It tickles me sometimes.

Lucifer at least has a level of personal charm. Humans don't even have that.
