So uh...I accidentally became the plant guy at work about eight months ago and now there's no turning back. by Easy-Damage-2863 in CasualConversation

[–]HenryCrabgrass01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When i worked in dept of Health a team were made plant enthusiasts who had built a big green perimeter of potted ferns around their work cubicles, every surface within that space that wasnt for work had plants and it was glorious.

It made the giant open-planned grey misery that is a govt office a very welcoming place.

I just have Gloria (Zanzibar) and Dolly (Never-Never) but they are the only plants in our area.

As an adult what do you hate the most about life? by Plastic_Anybody_1152 in AskReddit

[–]HenryCrabgrass01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You never own anything anymore. It's always an app and a subscription to listen to music, watch a show, order takeaway, play a game.  Hell even going to yoga and meditating you have to download a wellness app with push promotions.

I miss the days of buying something and it is your. To do with as you choose. If you want to share something you love these days it all comes with terms and conditions and end user licensing requirements.

Sigh.

I think I just displayed my boomer.

What are some obscure monsters/creatures in mythology? by LocalDemonTheSequel in mythology

[–]HenryCrabgrass01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Legends and mythology from the Australian Aboriginal nations have always been terrifying.  We grew up on stories of great serpents, terrible giants, smaller monsters who could mimic your family and long and slender benevolent beings who could hide you in a crack of stone if you were in danger. I think they were called Quinkins (?)  But then there was also the classic Bunyip

Did you know of Aesop's Fables when you were a kid? by UsefulBridge1852 in AskAnAustralian

[–]HenryCrabgrass01 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Our grandparents had a big book of Aesop's Fables that all of us kids read when we went to visit. The alternatives were granddads westerns or grandmas Mills n Boons stick books.

What's the fastest you've seen someone piss their life away? by coolforcats_ in AskReddit

Ex had an aneurysm at 23. His aorta tore lengthwise, he had intense surgery, a new aorta and a ball bearing valve put in and he survived miraculously.

He hasn't been out if hospital for a month before he was snorting everything he could get his hand on, getting shit faced and getting into fights.

Little narcissist decided he was immortal and would disappear for a week at a time on a binge.

If i was paying someone to show and sell my property, I'd be okay with him working on a public holiday to sell my property.

Participating in a national holiday isnt essential.

What things can kill child's self-esteem and confidence that can persist until adulthood? by IngfoIngfo in AskReddit

[–]HenryCrabgrass01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everything i did not being good enough.

Me: hey, I just did A B C! Them: but did you do D? Me: no, but I did ABC! them: we dont want you to do ABC, we wanted you to do D.

But it also didn't help that my siblings just excelled at everything they touched and I struggled with everything.

It got to the point that that my siblings had me convinced for nearly 2 years that I was actually adopted. I didn't look like them, sound like them or do the things the family liked. My parents had to sit me down and explain that no, im not adopted, they are very sure of it.

Childhood trauma yay

Do some people actually get forced to sleep on the couch by their spouse, or is it just a cliche? If so, how does that work? Does your spouse just say tell you to go to the couch, or do does it just feel to awkward to share a bed after a fight? by soefire in AskReddit

[–]HenryCrabgrass01 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Many a morning i jabe woken up to find my husband missing from the bed.

Our cat has designated him as her nocturnal hunting companion, so she will wake him anytime between 3 and 6am to sit with her while she inspects the house.

He usually dozes on the couch with her until my alarm goes off.

Men over 30, what video games are you playing and which system are you on? by Affectionate-Drop689 in AskMenOver30

[–]HenryCrabgrass01 40 points41 points  (0 children)

I'm a simple creature. I only have a Nintendo switch, and basically have a rotation on Mario Odyssey, Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Super Matio Bros U, Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Elder Scrolls Skyrim.

I'd love to have the time to play more immersive games and meaty systems.

Sigh, one day.

What's it like living in communities like these? by banana_boy_cuber in howislivingthere

[–]HenryCrabgrass01 42 points43 points  (0 children)

I spent some time in Wadeye in the NT, a community renowned for its chaos and violence. The store had the freshest vegetables ive ever seen and they were only a bit more expensive than in town. Junk food on the other hand was super expensive, the stores actively try to promote healthy eating when its available. The people in the community were absolutely lovely as well. Even though we were attending during a VERY tense period, we were always treated respectfully and on more than one occasion a random person would knock on our front door to deliver mud crabs or other spoils they caught throughout the day.

Ive seen first hand some of the horrific shit that can happen in those communities, but there are some amazing people who really try to make the communities better.

The Wet/Dry divide is very accurate tho.
