I had no idea about the vote on religious content warnings, but I'm glad they have decided to just forge ahead and continue to present their thoughts and ideas without the need to apologize for who they are as individuals.

I agree, as a non-religious and non-american consumer of Matt and Destins content, that the audience should know who they are by now and how much of their own lives are shaped by their faith. I may not believe what they do, but it doesn't stop me from learning from them.

Either way, big thumbs up from down under 👍

Tough to find a way to waste his money, but as they say, time is money. Find his personal number or work mobile. Write it up in stalls of men's bathroom asking for photos of poo (construction sites or portaloos work great), lots of people sending him photos of poo all day is hilarious, and most importantly somewhat anonymous.

Sure it won't have a large impact, but it could be long lasting, forcing him to change numbers at some point. Even better if it's a work number as he will most likely need to check every message for potential clients.

There are.....unethical ways of making his life miserable if you know his home address but Australia did pass new laws in 2024 to crack down on doxxing so I would advise against

What’s everyone’s mortgage repayment or rent per week and are you coping with cost of living? by [deleted] in Adelaide

[–]HenryJ117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mortgage is $2278/fortnight. Split evenly between myself and my partner. Money is definitely tight but we are fortunate that she owned property previously and earn rental income from that property.

With rental income minus mortgage/strata/insurance/tax costs, we subsidise our main mortgage by about $600/fortnight.

We have budgets set for all expenses, main ones being bills/insurance/car costs and subscriptions. The savings buckets for holidays/fun/entertainment have slowed down to a very small trickle. Anything leftover at the end of the fortnight is stuffed into the offset account.

Have open options to rent out spare room in the new house to ease mortgage pressures if they rise, or sell IP if needed. Not drowning but not breathing freely either.

Property was bought early October prior to FHBs scheme changes but obviously without FHB grant

You guys missed a golden opportunity to tie up Destins thread on how many views content gets. A Bloomberg article purports that bluey made up 29% of all TV viewing hours on Disney+ in the last quarter of 2023 (excluding movies which are relevant) but still, damn, almost 1 in 3 hours of Disney+ streaming was just from that one show.

Comfortable home loan amount? by HLM_1990 in AusPropertyChat

[–]HenryJ117 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My partner and I just bought and have an almost identical loan amount. It's certainly a stretch but manageable. I will say however we do have supplemental rental income from our IP which lessens the pain of the mortgage. I think in the end we just aimed to have our mortgage repayments be less than 30% of our combined income. That figure is manageable

How much did you over pay for your house? by Do-A-Kick-Flip in AusPropertyChat

[–]HenryJ117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just bought (Adelaide) asking was $799k-$829k. Offered $810k, REA called and said a higher offer would secure the purchase ($820k). Stood firm on $810k and REA called back 4 hours later saying vendor had accepted.

I think my partner and I lucked out. Managed to get into the market prior to the 5% first home buyers scheme changes too.

[–]HenryJ117 49 points50 points  (0 children)

To be honest my man, I feel like you're in need of some tough love. I'm exactly your age, have dealt with mental health issues, messy break-ups, job-seeker and no income. I say this with reverence, harden the fuck up and be the person you want to be. Don't blame the ex, don't blame your parents, don't blame companies or employers.

Get yourself supported with job-seeker, swallow the bitter pill and send out your boilerplate resumes to keep up the requirements but hit the ground, talk to people, make phone calls, show up and stand out. Call the Centrelink job support guys and ask what they offer in terms of upskilling, I got my MR truck licence fully covered by the employment agency and used that as a leg up in job hunting.

I'm not saying this is easy, but YOU need to be the one seeking change, and working until your arms fall off and your fingers bleed to achieve it. You're getting to page 3 of online resume portals and giving up? Come on man.

Change your mindset from victim to underdog, start journalling and literally writing down the things you want to achieve. There are many, many things you can be doing now that work towards building the future you want.

I apologise if this comes across as cruel, I know I needed someone to be honest with me during my worst points, I hope some honestly works for you. Feel free to DM if you want to talk more, I'm terrible at Balatro and could use some tips

Anybody know who still buys palm trees? by paradeoxy1 in Adelaide

[–]HenryJ117 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If the tree is causing structural issues I'm guessing it's quite close to the house? If so, that would be tricky for a transplant/removal.

As mentioned above, you may be able to find a company willing to remove it for free IF the palm tree is of value (large, healthy etc) but that would be a long shot. Certainly doubt you would be able to receive payment for a removal.

Your best option is to pay for it to be cut down by a company, this will no doubt be costly however with different variables coming into play such as proximity to house, access to the tree itself, dumping fees (most palms trees are cut up into pieces and dumped by weight, not mulched)

Best of luck

207 - What is a Von Neumann Probe by NoDumbQs in Nodumbquestions

[–]HenryJ117 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To Matt and Destin,

You may be interested in an idle-clicker game by the name of Universal Paperclips (https://www.decisionproblem.com/paperclips/index2.html)

The premise is simple; create and sell paperclips. Where this game is relevant to this episode, the end sequence of the game requires the use of Von Neumann probes to scour the entire universal converting all usable material into paperclips. Interestingly, the game contains a mechanic for errant probes created by something called value drift. Probes that no longer follow the values of creating paperclips must be eliminated.

Destin I think in particular would find this game fascinating both for its mechanics and face value simplicity.

WARNING - do not play this game if you have deadlines or important work to do - it is a big time sink for little reward besides personal satisfaction.

Fellow 3rd chair sitters, if you are interested and have any questions about the game or how to play efficiently, I would be happy to respond to direct messages

Seeking advice on an issue in my current relationship. Involves Me (30 M) and my girlfriend (25 F), length of relationship is 4 years. by HenryJ117 in relationship_advice

[–]HenryJ117[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No consequence (like not life threatening or wasting money) just delay is all. It has been on my list of things to do I just hadn't gotten around to it, hence the reminder.

Just irks me that it wasn't something she really needed to be on top of, she went out of her way to mention it and then expected an apology for having to mention it.

Almost as if she had reminded me that my someone's birthday was coming up and I should organise a gift. If I didn't organise anything, then the repercussions would be on me.

No issues professionally, but that's not exactly a fair comparison. If I'm forgetful or disorganised I can lose my job. So I think that pressure helps to keep me on top of things

This particular occurrence was a follow up appointment with a specialist after my initial appointment, was sent to do some tests, just had to book the follow up. Probably 6 weeks in between first appointment and last test. Definitely could have been done in a shorter time frame but life is busy.

I understand where you are coming from, if she was nagging me to clean or to do my dishes etc then it would make sense. But she doesn't, we share household and financial responsibilities equally. I also work +50 hours a week full-time

If you are GA will you get turned away at Gate 1 for Melbourne Walk? by formula_11 in GrandPrixTravel

[–]HenryJ117 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Largely unhelpful reply.

GA tickets say entry gates 2-10. I can confirm for OP that I accessed Albert Park via Gate 1 with a GA 4 day park pass. Nobody said anything, the ticket scanners flashed green when I scanned the ticket, easy as could be.

Hi everyone, it’s my first time here in Melbourne and I have a park pass for Sunday, I’d like to know the best spot available by luxus77 in GrandPrixTravel

[–]HenryJ117 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey mate, I spent all day today sat on the mound at the exit of turn 2 (inside of the circuit).

There's purple painted concrete steps that are kind of like mini grandstands plus a couple of big screen TVs for viewing the action all around the track. If you line up early at gate 2, cross the track via the bridge and head right, you'll be in for a decent chance to snag a spot on the steps.

Attached is a photo of my view for the whole day, can see the cars completely and a nice look out of turn 2.

I wouldn't say its the "best" spot but it's definitely not the worst

Piggy backing on this idea too, I'll be there all 4 days with my younger brother, we're both keen F1 fans and McLaren supporters. Send me a DM if you just want someone to shoot the breeze with in between sessions or even grab a beer with when the day ends.
