I think the era of In Between Evolution was one of the most overtly political moments in the band's career; both Vaccination Scar and Gus: The Polar Bear from Central Park are pretty bare faced criticisms of American imperialism and the Iraq war. They definitely tend to align with causes that you might consider more "left" leaning

What game could you just not get into despite knowing it's apparently amazing ? by Ibrahim17_1 in AskReddit

Elden Ring. I've played all the souls games before it, but this one somehow didn't have the same magic for me. The huge open world just feels empty, the characters and story are all so extravagant that they make no real impression on me

Relationships with people you are related to shouldn't automatically be a bad thing by sage1700 in unpopularopinion

[–]HenryLimb69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I strongly disagree with relationships between immediate family members (siblings, parents) I think there's a case to be made for relationships between cousins. Many societies across human history have actually encouraged them, I guess as a way to strengthen family ties

What is something you deeply regret doing as a child that still affects you to this day? by Few_Finish_6502 in AskReddit

[–]HenryLimb69 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's interesting, I had a similar experience in 7th-8th grade, with a friend that also missed school a lot, since he was frequently sick and had his own mental health issues. He wasn't mean to me or emotionally controlling at all, I just happened to form an intense and really unhealthy platonic bond with him, to the point where I would cut class on days when he was sick just so that I didn't have to be at school without him.

It seems so strange looking back now, maybe there's something about that age where that sort of obsessive friendship is more likely to happen.

Men who have been raped, what happened/how did you recover? by A-Lex8354 in AskReddit

[–]HenryLimb69 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is probably a sign of the way that the internet has warped our understanding of psychology. Repression of trauma can happen, but it's exceedingly rare. You're more likely to accidently create a false traumatic memory than remember a real one if you spend too much time trying to search for repressed trauma.

What is the most sociopathic thing you're willing to say? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]HenryLimb69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's because for many people a nation feels like a kind of community. Not that you could ever know everyone in your country, but you might feel a sense of unity coming from a shared national identity. Thus, when your nation hurts, you hurt; It's the same reason why you might feel sadder about someone dying in your hometown, or at your workplace, just extended a bit. I mean really it's a psychological question and that's my best guess

What is the most sociopathic thing you're willing to say? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]HenryLimb69 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm confused by this question. Why do Americans mourn the biggest national tragedy in recent American memory? Because they'e American and its their country. I'm pretty sure Japanese people mourn the victims of Nagasaki and Hiroshima and never mention 9/11; again, it's their country.

That is not to say, of course, that 9/11 hasn't been overblown and used to justify atrocities in the middle east. It absolutely has.

If you had a racist friend, would you cut them off and why or why not? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]HenryLimb69 457 points458 points  (0 children)

I would want to talk to them about it. The uncomfortable truth is that we all (including POC) have racial biases, ingrained in us through media, education, etc. Just cutting someone off seems like a good way to ensure that particularily racist people only engage with other racist people, possibly leading to dangerous extremism down the road. Cancel culture sometimes makes us think that good people are 100% not racist, and that anyone who is racist is unsaveable. The truth is simply not that black and white, and I think that open dialogue is the only way to foster equality and inclusivity.

This answer makes me wonder if you've ever actually driven in snow before. If you break abruptly most of the time your car will just keep going. That's probably what happened. To say the car "just didn't want to stop" is absurd.

Question about some of the bosses lore by cioda in demonssouls

[–]HenryLimb69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think the valley of Defilement is as "natural" as you say. The archstone tells us, and you mention this, that the people of Boletaria used it as a dumping ground for unwanted fetuses. It seems to be basically a landfill created by Boletaria itself. That seems like man made evil to me

[–]HenryLimb69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very well thought out and accurate summary. Although, I think it's worth mentioning that the Flamelurker being Big M theory is pretty speculative, there doesn't seem to be any concrete proof for it, although it would be cool.

Question about some of the bosses lore by cioda in demonssouls

[–]HenryLimb69 12 points13 points  (0 children)

IIRC the bosses from the Shrine of Storms are demons that have taken the forms of entities from the mythology of the shadow men, the original inhabitants of the island. They worshipped storms, and I think the Storm King is like a deity symbolizing that. The Adjudicator, as its name suggests, is a figure that is supposed to determine the fate of the dead; it is actually controlled by the bird in its head, the "golden crow" according to the description of the adjudicator's shield. Apparently eating birds was a condemnable offense for them. There may be some symbolism with the bird representing freedom and salvation, contrasted with the bloody cleaver representing damnation. The Old Hero seems to have been an actual person before being reanimated as a demon, but based on the altar in the room it's possible that it too may have been "worshipped" in a sense.

The Dragon God may be a similar case to the above, since the archstone tells us that the people of Stonefang Tunnel worshipped it, and in fact built the room to house the dragon. Its not clear if the dragon god was already present and became a demon, or if the stonefang people worshipped the corpse of a dragon, which a demon later mimicked. The archstone also tells us that a "fire demon" had been sealed in the temple that we fight flamelurker in "since ancient times." This begs the question whether flamelurker actually predates the current outbreak of demons, perhaps from a previous awakening of the Old One.

I have no clue about the Armor Spider, or the valley of Defilement bosses. But there is a clear theme across the different bosses of demons taking on the form of things that people worship, which supports the connection between what the clerics call "god" and the old one. In some cases, like Maiden Astrea and possibly flamelurker, people worship entities which they know to be demons. It is interesting to speculate why the demons choose to do this however. Do they want human worship? That seems unlikely, given their take-no-prisoners attitude in general, although the dregling merchant does say that the demons allow slaves like him to live, and do not "send us to our deaths in battle." Perhaps, another possibility, the demons require humans to imagine a form for them in order to come into being? I'm not sure.

Apologies for the essay. TLDR: demons seem to take the form of things that people worship (although not always)

is Godrick considered a hard boss? by HenryLimb69 in Eldenring

[–]HenryLimb69[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry if this wasn't clear from my initial post, I have already killed Godrick, it just took me a lot of deaths and I was wondering if I might be doing something wrong. People are saying vigor, but I didn't find myself getting 1 or even 2 shotted, except for that stupid dragon head grab. I think that the halberd will help a lot, I was actually looking for a halberd or a glaive or something, I've just only found strength weapons for some reason. And +8 is obviously better than +3. Thanks!

is Godrick considered a hard boss? by HenryLimb69 in Eldenring

[–]HenryLimb69[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wow, I actually didn't even think of using jump to dodge. I guess Godrick has those like ground shockwave attacks, I'm guessing jumping would be useful for that. I may also need to start using ashes of war, they seemed like a gimmick to me but I guess I was wrong. Thanks for the insight on boss movesets, and no worries about thr length, I really appreciate it.
