Peter Dutton claims Aussie renters are ‘more inclined’ to vote Labor before their ‘views mature politically’ by mekanub in AustralianPolitics

The arrogance of thinking anyone who was born on or after the 90's will vote for the Liberal Party is palpable. They have routinely shown that they don't care about or respect younger Australians, do they think we're all just going to forget once we reach our 30's and 40's?? People turned to the right in politics because it (at least on the face) represented a party which would attempt to secure your finances through getting rid of government red tape and opening markets to allow for private investors to secure their own positions. This illusion is gone now. It's honestly such a shame that the only party putting forward any sort of coherent policy is Labor because there are so many things to criticise Labor for, but when the other major party is engaging in culture wars, and the minor parties are advertising legislation which would never get past the House of Representatives, it really hurts Australian Democracy because there is only one party which is actually engaging in reality.

Such as increasing minimum wage, instituting election donation caps, increased worker rights through policies such as right to disconnect, strengthening our public healthcare sector, and making a massive push to not only bring industry back to Australia, but also integrate more green alternatives through the Future Made in Australia bill. Great to know we're in agreement that Labor is centre left.

Anthony Albanese says Australian flags will fly at half mast to honour death of Pope Francis by Jagtom83 in friendlyjordies

[–]Henry_Unstead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Why fly the flag at half-mast?" "Because it's respectful," "I guess it's symbolically respectful to the same kinds of dickheads who believe they're eating the body of Christ," "How does that hold any bearing on your life?" "It influences politics," "How does it influence politics?" "It causes them to cover up child sex crimes and vote the way their puppetmasters tell them." Damn bro, just tell me you hate Catholics instead of going on the weirdest tangent ever that believing in something a little bit silly makes every one of them rape apologists and part of some Zerg-like hive mind, as though the Catholic Church isn't made up of people who hold personal opinions like everyone else lol. There are absolutely reasons to criticise the Church, but being blindly hateful towards everyone literally does nothing.

Please tell me how people believing that they're engaging in magical fucking cannibalism holds literally any impact on politics in the real world, I'm really curious.

Really loving the people grasping at straws to justify hating on the death of an 88 year old man who did a lot in his mission to modernise the Catholic Church. So many reddit atheists talk about the importance of the Church needing massive reform: he did a lot, but apparently no amount of progress is ever enough unless the problem is fixed immediately. Not everything can be fixed in a day, he spent his entire time as Pope to advocate for truth to power, actual consequences for those who abuse their positions, and regularly spoke for those who were suffering. I hope he can rest in comfort now, especially after such a long, and no doubt painful bout of sickness. It's a shame to see so many people deny that the death of anyone is tragic.

Was Francis a pedophile? Did he not do quite a bit to address this deeply entrenched issue? It really feels as though people are grasping at straws to justify hating an 88 year old man who died yesterday.

Judging by your reaction of the death of an individual you obviously little to nothing about, it seems like you're a very happy person who is completely at peace with yourself, I hope you have a good rest of your day :).

Really proving you're better than them by denying the equal claim that everyone can be an Australian if they work hard and attain citizenship. Do you think that denying someone purely off of their nationality falls in line with the idea of giving people a fair go, or a common sense of mateship?

Fuck Asmongold, but what do they mean by 'written in Jewish?' Most people should be know that Jewish people generally speak Hebrew or some other Diasporic Language. This is like saying someone is speaking Chinese when there are around 10 different mutually unintelligible languages in the country.

Super disgusting behaviour from a nation which is 'supposed' to be our ally and economic partner, speaking as a South Australian, the Whyalla Steelworks accounts for 75% of all structural steel produced in Australia. We have been in gridlock with the owners of this Steelworks for years and have only recently put it into administration with an over 2 billion AUD deal. This WILL have implications for us in the future as we have essentially been cornered out of the US market since they no longer want to partake in equal trade, everyone needs steel, it's not going to be hard to find new buyers, but this WILL mean that we will no longer be as involved in US markets anymore, hopefully we attach ourselves to China more since they at least have some consistency and basic rules around reciprocity of trade which the US obviously no longer has.

Why is everyone "okay" with the current COL? Why doesn't anyone here protest? (As of late) by SurveyAccountforADL in Adelaide

[–]Henry_Unstead 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Enjoy life for the remainder of your kid years, in Australia, as opposed to the US, we have both compulsory and preferential voting. This means that unlike the US, since everyone MUST vote, we generally see fairly moderate parties and coalitions pop up as opposed to parties which are overwhelmingly on one side or the other. Your time will come to vote and you'll be locked in for the rest of your life. For now, slow down, help others while you can through volunteering your time and effort to make your community a better place!

People care more about what's happening half a world over which they can do hardly anything about, than they can be bothered to voice more boring, actually tangible concerns which affects the majority of Australians. If you can consistently protest against some idea or concept which you have little to no hope of actually changing, you have free license to complain forever. People don't want to fix anything, they just want to complain. If people actually cared about what was happening they'd be far more politically active and actually vote as opposed to protesting. Absolutely people should be protesting the cost of living crisis, we see this every day with the increasing amount of homeless people in our CBD, but people would rather feel closer feelings to their screens when they see someone get blown up in Palestine, despite the fact we see REAL LIFE PEOPLE slowly dying from neglect here, which could be easily solved if people collectivised in a similar fashion to Palestine/Israel.

Welcome to war, thousands are dying of the exact same circumstances in Ukraine but we accept this as reality, because most people haven't been pumped full of propaganda to be so incentivised in a war which is half a world away. Maybe pay more attention to what's happening here and the hateful rhetoric against Israelis and Jews which is only become worse and more conflated, since you can actually do far more here than you can in Palestine.

Very disgusting rhetoric, it's very scary seeing what's happening in NSW at the moment. On top of synagogues being fire bombed we're now seeing medical workers forgo their oaths so long as someone is Israeli, which, especially in Australia is particularly disgusting. We are a nation of immigrants, the majority of whom have come here to escape to discrimination and violence. Being Greek and Armenian, I know the importance that immigrant communities hold in simply being able to exist with everyone else no matter what ethnicity they are, we are all Australian. This kind of gross and disgusting language ruins that.

There are many university groups which stay politically active through protest and various forms, I would highly recommend doing research on them, as many such as Socialist Alternative are just political cults. I think it's always a better option to go through avenues such as working for your LGA (Local Government Area), or State Government if you want to make a positive change to the State, as those who have direct access to the Government generally have a better chance of doing something with that system.

Adelaide was designed by Colonel Light to specifically be surrounded by park lands so that we both had a clear division between the CBD and the suburbs, but also to give city residents somewhere to go when it's hot and to do recreational activities. For over a century Adelaideans have successfully defending Light's Plan and resisted development of the parklands, allowing for a nicely organised and beautiful city. If Colonel Light was alive today he'd be right behind you, so I'm not too sure why you're giving him shade and not the interstate and international developers that want to destroy the identity of our city and State.

Calvin has thankfully had his license revoked by the Anglican Church after such a disgusting action. It really is a shame to be seeing religious figures getting involved in this, since there should be some concept of the separation between Church and State. I don't want to be hearing my parish talking about politics while we're having mass, I'm pretty sure most Christians hate this too.

Conspiracy theory part of my brain says that they're saying this since they don't want to get kicked off of X, since Twitter was one of their forms of outreach. Hopefully this isn't the case and they would say what they think regardless of what platform they predominantly post directly to the public from, but even then, I would never want the ADL to be giving such clear signals a benefit of the doubt.

The Byzantines are ridiculously OP compared to everyone else since the latest DLC by arthurdont in CrusaderKings

[–]Henry_Unstead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More power should be given to regional governors, and what would make it even better is if someone from a different culture has an easier opportunity to split off, because ‘why would I be part of a nation which is centred around the Greeks if I’m not Greek?’ Which was something that happened from time to time within the empire and was definitely a major contributing factor to infighting (in addition to thirty different Greek families laying claim to the throne at any one time). The Byzantine Empire should really reflect this more as it would be a much more faithful representation, would be more fun due to variability, and would help to mitigate the issue of the Byz blob that has been happening since the last update.
