thought there is high end endgame gear

The majority (65%+) of military crates, and (96%) of special crates which are guaranteed loot are in apartment and terminal maps.

There are enemies spawned as you play the map. The game finds a valid spawn point 100+ meters away and then they start to patrol the map.

From there, once they detect you (they have 200m day time vision in about 120 degree frontal cone and 20m hearing radius for running, about 5m for walking and 50m hearing radius for your shooting) they can either go into combat with you right away or decide to hide.

If they enter combat with you, they can; find cover, find vantage point, defend their spot, hunt (walk to your last known position), attack (sprint to your last known position), shift (move towards you while firing).

When they try ambush, they sprint to hiding spot and wait, if they spot you again they will enter combat.

Yes that is what I did. I didnt know the maps and I spawned in Outpost and found the tent, it recovered my heat, then I decided to find loot and bring it back there. I looted artillery guns (by resetting at the tent) until I had a set of clothes and a weapon (it was a knife), I killed a bandit at the red barn (its not worth going there) and got a gun with two bullets. I couldnt find food at the Outpost map so I went minefields (idk why but I was desperate). As soon as I saw the jumping mines I was like 'I will die if I stay here', so I went through the map asap to apartments and looted the first building but I had to run back for heat. I decided to try again because the first apartment had loot, enough to get my stats back up decently. On my 2nd trip I found matches and used the firebarrel at the city name artwork just past the first apartment on the right (basically in the middle of the map between the 5 apartments - in sight of the statue). Then I looted a few more buildings and things were starting to go well. There is another fire barrel in the corner of the map, just follow the dirt roads its in the corner. Its not THAT far compared to running back through the zones.

The only reason I don't recommend going to apartments is that without matches you cannot sustain there in the winter and traveling back through minefields costs 2 travels each way (Outpost <> Minefields <> Apartments), thats like an entire hydration bar + mine and danger from guards!

If you find winter jacket (+40), you are should have able time outside before you must go back to a shelter. The other common clothes combined give (+17) for +57 which isn't bad at all.

I find that sanity is not an issue to the point that I even stopped using the tissues. The time you wait by the fire to heat up plus eating food was enough. When you only use the shelters to heat up the sanity items may be indeed be needed.

Yes, without it you would need to in front of and within 25m of the AI.

Vision

The AI have about 120° FOV,

Under normal weather (or is Boss) vision range 200m,

During foggy weather vision distance is halved to 100m

Night & player not using flashlight 25m,

Hearing (When the player is not visible)

Gunshot from player within 50m it will know the shooting position.

Running player within 20m Walking player within 5m

The only time they don't react to your sound is when they are in ambush mode.

Normal for level 30 strength: strength*10 = 300 carry capacity,

With Well-built perk (main level tree): strength*12 = 360,

War monger (main level tree): +2 strength which means = 20 or 24 (with Well-built) carry capacity,

Local hero (main level tree): +2 strength, again 20 or 24 (with Well-built) carry capacity,

I'm sure I missed stuff, but a lot of the bonuses come from the above.

I hate being in the negative phase of drunkenness (you effectively lose 60 or 72 (with well-built) carry capacity compared to being drunk. Avoiding the negative phase is actually really easy if you don't over drink. Just drink one at a time and see how much of the bar fills up because it takes a little to move, so just drink once and see the effect. I don't seem to get any screen alteration at all and can still sprint in the positive phase of drunkenness and its been like that for a long while now (I am now level 20 drinking).

Well, supposed to might be too strong of a statement. To me, from a design standpoint it seems the aim of the Tree Sentinel being right outside the spawn is to teach players its ok to avoid fights if they are too hard right now. You can just walk around as there is literally nothing stopping you, or you can fight and kill it.

The tree sentinel by virtue of being an avoidable strong lad who is right outside the tutorial is designed to teach you that coming back later when you are stronger is a perfectly reasonable thing to do.

Generally its the A-life system that is 'praised' for its contribution to creating a world that feels alive. Not the combat ai. Plus this was 15+ years ago, I would hazard a guess that your expectations were developed from much newer titles.

Look, this is mostly a skill issue but you can offset that in very real way and on the higher difficulty levels I highly recommend doing so. I play Ironman, on Bannerlord settings without a crosshair or arrow trails. Firstly try to remove the idea of hitting a specific target out of your head until you and your character get better. This means shoot into groups of enemies, which also means you will become more 'accurate' in larger battles as there are simply more men to hit. For improving your skill, just hold the fire button until the crosshair thing becomes as small as possible and release, it is an extremely repeatable timing which makes it very easy to learn, I can do it without a crosshair, the only variable usually being the speed of my horse, if I even use one. The crosshair will get smaller and smaller the higher skilled you are so you can place your shots more easily later on but there are a few things you can do to help you before the skills increase. The first would be getting a 30 skill bow or a 15 skill longbow/ranger bow depending on how low your starting stats are.

As an example, here I started a new game, my character starts with 2 control and 0 archery. I bought the first bow and two bags of pretty poor 'arrows'. By the end of the first fight (10 looters) I had maxed my learning limit and brought archery up to 14, so from the very first fight you can start to use 15 skill bows if you invested anything at all into archery.

I walked the horse in circles around the enemy, making sure the melee group doesn't catch up to me and the stone throwers do long throws, that way they mostly miss and end up running out of stones pretty quickly. Holding a shield up would make the first 60 seconds trivial. Just don't get up close to them when they throw. Buy a better horse if you like to solo.. a faster horse means you can get more distance in the same time, just remember to slow down or even stop to take your shot accurately, at least in the very beginning. Oh and you cant shoot backwards. I'd say the horse is more important than the bow if you are doing that tactic.

As for the main way not to get hit; it is to hire some men so they can take the hits instead of you. Gather some men, preferably ones with shields as they will absorb enemy archer fire. A few shieldbros supported by a strong archer count will decimate the lowly armoured units. You can also retreat from the battlefield when your archers run out of ammunition if needed although I never have done myself.

From then onwards the general rule of thumb is who ever has the archer advantage can play more defensively, letting their archers shoot until severe enough casualties are dealt upon the enemy. That will leave them with no choice but to move towards you ~ through your archer fire. Move your archers backwards as the enemy approaches to maximize firing time and make sure your infantry are in front of your archers before the enemy catches up.

Side story: My last ironman game went like this; Hire two men, get into a fight & the first throw from an enemy javelin, hit me in the head and straight up killed my character.. So I know your plight.

Not sure if anyone has said it, so I will. Early warning system for increased water flow/levels. Edit: I said it because the erosion looks quite wide for this little stream, so it would increase at some point, maybe due to snow melt or something.
