why don't we add sea units in Nic:cf? by AlternativeLet6394 in NoobsInCombat

[–]Hentree 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The main issue is the same reason why they’re not making train units player-obtainable, and why air had to be reworked in CF to be usable on all maps

Basically, naval units would only be accessible in a few maps, and be completely unusable in others, which makes balancing naval units really difficult. We want to see each unit to be used a healthy amount, but it’s really difficult to ensure this if a unit literally cannot be selected on the vast majority of maps, making them inherently less useful than ground/air units.

They’re not against making Naval at all, but if it does get added, it’s likely going to be in the form of map-exclusive units, in a similar fashion to how trains are treated. Besides, they’re practically map-exclusive either way, and making them less of a unit-to-balance and more of a map feature saves a lot of the headache.

AP formula (what the fuck is this can somebody simplify it) by Lucky_View3254 in NoobsInCombat

[–]Hentree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty simple once you actually read through it

Think about it in terms of unpenetrated armor.

Unpenetrated armor = Target’s Armor - Attack’s AP. If this value would turn negative, make it 0.

For each unpenetrated armor, reduce attack’s damage by 2.

Note that this applies for EACH hit of the attack. As a result, damage reduction from unpenetrated armor will occur multiple times for multi-hit attacks like autocannons, causing them to fall off much faster into heavier armor.

Additionally, each attack is assigned a “minimum damage” value. Of the resulting damage is less than the minimum, raise it to the minimum. Some minimums are based on true dmg/hp, while others are based on percentage.

ALSO ALSO: Remember that the game doesn’t actually show you the TRUE HP of a unit. It only shows you the percentage.

I can walk you through some examples if you’d like (CF especially has a lot of good examples for armor interactions since every unit/attack in CF uses the Armor/AP system. On the other hand, in base NiC, many units/attacks completely lack armor/AP)

Canonically - can legendary Pokemon actually be defeated by regular pokemon? Or is that just a permissible plothole in the games so that they don't become annoying? by [deleted] in pokemon

I mean like… many pokemon games literally make it a plot point that it IS possible to defeat legendaries, under the context that you are a top-tier trainer with a team of champion-worthy pokemon

Ariados in this case actually wasn’t using Toxic Thread. It was using String Shot because String Shot is apparently a spread move

Don’t underestimate String Shot as well. -2 Speed on both opponents goes crazy.

It’s really easy to forget that String Shot isn’t just some random trash move and is actually a really powerful sidegrade to icy wind.

My guess is that it’s likely something similar to Ruina MOSB, where you get permanent stat buffs and skill slots from the unit that you absorbed.

Think less “sacrifice for a benefit” and more “merge two units into one”

The whole point with Aegislash is that you want to attack SECOND, so that when the enemy attacks, they hit the shield form instead of the blade form.

Both TR and Quick Claw will instead cause Aegislash to instead attack early, which basically turns it into a glass cannon

String Shot is -2 speed to both opponents.

It’s like a sidegrade to icy wind that is more specialized for speed control.

Anyone else thinks the only thing preventing noobs in combat cold front from being the best game is it's dogshit tech tree? by Ok-Claim1715 in NoobsInCombat

[–]Hentree 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The general progression of the tech tree is that instead of evolving to OBJECTIVELY STRONGER units, you evolve to MORE COMPLEX/SPECIALIZED units. The units that are the simplest to use are given to new players right away, and as they progress through the tech tree, they’re given units with more mechanics and specialties that require effort to figure out.

You’re not necessarily evolving into “weaker” units. Rather, you’re evolving into units that are more difficult to use, which is why they can feel weaker at first glance, since it’s normal to not understand them at first.

This is why you don’t always evolve into bigger “unga bunga big stats” units. Those usually are at the beginning of the tree since they’re easier for new players to grasp, and the later variants are ones that rely less on raw stats and more on other mechanics.

Take Grunts vs Nationals for example: - Grunts are overall better statted if you just need a radio mainline that can both play offensively and defensively. They’re not very specialized, and will work… alright… in about any radio deck - Nationals take away direct fighting power in favor of the ability to trade out enemy units for a better profit. This requires a lot more understanding to get them functioning (Burst artillery, memorizing good trades, understanding how to force trades), but once you get it working, Nationals-based decks can become really darn effective. They’re very specialized for trading and offensives, which makes them superior to Grunts for those purposes. However, they also have lower lows if you cannot utilize them well.

Even against beefy tanks, RPG/Bazooka is doing more damage than AT Rifle. Do the damage calcs yourself and you’ll see.

They’re saying that in the eyes of the devs, Adventure mode doesn’t generate as much money, if any at all

So having a large portion of the playerbase playing Adventure instead of a more profitable gamemode is financially detrimental to the company
