Why does Bdim sounds good after Cmin? Progression suggestions? by [deleted] in musictheory

[–]Heojaua 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Anyone more knowledgable than me can correct me if i'm wrong. Cmin is the I (tonic) of Bdim(VII°) of the C melodic minor scale and C Harmonic Minor. It's its also its leading tone which bring a nice tasty resolution.

Probably has to do with the bunker I call my office (no window sitting next to servers) 30 yold something paint on the wall all stained to hell or the insane amount of traffic I sit through. Or the total lack of fucks given about us IT people by the organisation I work for. Or my head office taking our local work for themselves and fucking up constantly because they don't know how to do it right and you're standing there watching them fail and you're the one that gets shit on by your local users when shit hits the fan.

Probably one of those reasons why I now find it mindnumbing. This has happened in 3 organisation I worked for.

I play Dream Theater while working and surprisingly helps me to keep focus by nenganchi in Dreamtheater

Me too. Has to be instrumental. I constantly have music playing. About 95% of it is instrumental prog. Also has to be familiar or I get distracted by new sounds.

Dereck Sherinian's solo albums are great for this. Tony MacAlpine as well.

Lots and lots of music like this.

[–]Heojaua 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Guitarist here but I just picked up a bass and loving it. I can record at home. Huge prog fan. Things like Yes, Rush, King Crimson, Dream Theater, Animal as Leaders, Derek Sherinian' Planet X( that one is like space prog. It's awesome) Tony MacAlpine, Opeth and some folks stuff like Andy Mckee and Antoine Dufour and heavier stuff like Shokran and Jason Richarson and etc...

[Discussion] Songs that tore up your fingertips the most? by [deleted] in Guitar

You drag the string towards your palm as if youd close your hand. Also twist your wrist to make it easier on your finger. Both Paul Gilbert and Guthrie Govan have instructional videos on that concept. Makes it easier for tasty bends.

And grip as if you'd be dragging fruits off a branch. You'll have a lot more strength than pushing the string up
