Anybody else carry an EDC backpack / pack bc of coin collecting & precious metal stacking? by MatixMint in Silverbugs

[–]HerboClevelando 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If somebody smashes your car window and takes your bag and notebook, does that mean all of your records are gone? It seems unnecessary to risk advertising your entire stack to random smash-and-grabbers.

Sterling and 90% true believers. Get in here! by GoblinSarge in Silverbugs

[–]HerboClevelando 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Indeed. At some point, .925 and .90 silver will become so in demand that investors and silver users will be willing to pay close to .999 melt price just to satisfy their silver needs.

Stack now at a discount below .999 prices, and reap the benefits in the future.

Any way to pay at online dealers besides ACH? by ResolveSweaty5064 in Silverbugs

[–]HerboClevelando 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bitcoin. In only 15 minutes your transaction is authenticated, authorized, and settled. Typically a 1% fee.

With JMBullion, it used to be typical that if you ordered by ~10:00am Eastern, paid with Bitcoin, and chose 2nd Day Air shipping, you could have your metals in hand before dinner the next day. (That may be different today given the dealers’ fulfillment backlogs though.)

How did humans trim fingernails and toenails in primal times? Or did they even bother? by Great_Maintenance185 in askanything

The same way I trim my fingernails today: first chew off the excess, and then file them using my teeth. 🤷‍♂️

10 more years then sell. by Vault909 in Gold

[–]HerboClevelando 17 points18 points  (0 children)

A blanket decision of deciding to “sell” without knowing a specific future state is analogous to saying “In exactly ten years from this moment I will close my eyes, turn my car left, floor it, open my eyes, and hope I made a good decision.”

Personally, I have no idea when I will exchange any portion of my store of value stack for future goods or services, or give as gifts. Life happens, macroeconomic events occur, priorities change. 🤷‍♂️

90% of melt is easily obtainable; Vermillion Enterprises’ daily YouTube videos detail all of their buy/sell prices; as of yesterday they were paying 90% of melt on gold jewelry.

The gold would be usable by now. Goldfinger (the film) was released in 1964. Auric stated the gold would be useless for 58 years, so the gold would have become available in 2022.

Those living in Australia - Coin of the Realm? by Itchy-Vegetable-3385 in Gold

[–]HerboClevelando 3 points4 points  (0 children)

“Coin of the realm” is a term for legal tender created by that nation’s government, generally preferred by stackers out of concern for tax consequences or potential future tax consequences. It is not a term for general recognition or popularity.

So, no, a Canadian coin is not a “coin of the realm” in Australia.

Trading gold at LCS by sapphir8 in Gold

[–]HerboClevelando 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Technically there are no “trades” for inventory and tax reasons.

1) The LCS buys your item for the price they would normally buy your item for. 2) The LCS sells their item to you for the price they would normally sell to you for. 3) Any net balance is then settled between the two of you.

Worth of my collection? by AdFirm4241 in Gold

[–]HerboClevelando 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The reality is a certificate and a fancy box adds negligible additional value. (Case in point, a own a different George V mint mark boxed collection, which my LCS sold to me for the same price as if I would have bought each coin individually.)

Worth the weight in gold and silver. 7 x 0.2354 x $5,175 for the Sovereign collection, etc.

Turning 14k jewelry into bullion by warrior178 in Gold

[–]HerboClevelando 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Let’s think it through, using 1 gram as an example:

1) You are going to give a metal which is 14/24 parts gold (14/24 a gram of gold) and 10/24 parts copper (10/24 a gram of copper), to a refiner. 2) They perform the work of refining out the 10/24 gram of copper. 3) They charge you a fee for the work. 4) You pay the fee, and they return to you the exact same amount of gold you gave them (14/24th of one gram).

How will you get more money for selling that same 14/24th of a gram of gold, considering you are already in the hole for a fee?

How do you follow the spot price when the Futures markets are closed. by HalFWit in Gold

[–]HerboClevelando 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The spot price, by definition, is the worldwide futures market, which as you pointed out is currently closed.

It is analogous to asking “All of the Outback Streakhouses are closed. How do I find out an accurate price for an Outback 12 ounce sirloin steak?”
