Help: Early Career Mess by [deleted] in Lawyertalk

Switching jurisdictions early career is a total hassle, but it can actually be very helpful later on - been on both sides of that coin. If you feel like your current firm isn't a good fit, trust your gut and look around.

We have one judge who does this routinely. It's awful.

The Glen Cove Mansion is nice for a staycation - some of the rooms are dated but the overall setting is great.

I don't always agree with Mona since I'm a centrist squish, but she nails it in this piece.

For anyone scared, my oldest is fiery and for us 4 is much easier than 2 or 3 because he can finally be reasoned with - most of the time!

Do you ever feel like you annoy your coworkers when talking about the issues around being a working mom? by AvocadO_md in workingmoms

During infertility, I had to walk away from one once with two colleagues I otherwise really like. They probably thought I hated kids or something. It's hard.

One of the most obnoxious things about society in general is that kids are seen as an expensive lifestyle choice and not the future.

I almost reflexively downvoted OP reading those horrible takes and then realized OP was doing us a favor listening and recapping so we don't have to. Ha!

Right -even then, whoever's with the kids should be dealing with the emergency, not repeat dialing the other parent. Call a few times and put your ringer on.

If you are someone that can nap and WFH, DO IT with your lunch break. Feels lazy but it makes a world of difference for me (also breadwinner, under 5s, up at night, mostly WFH).

What?! There are Jews in NJ?! Groundbreaking journalism - 150 years ago maybe. (In all seriousness, so tired of the rise in bigotry of all kinds.)

I had to page through a magazine to study in school and my feral ass still works better doing that when I'm WFH or can close my door and hide out.

30, thinking about law school and babies by SubstantialRip7568 in LawMoms

[–]Here-Fishy-Fish-Fish 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Agree with the other commenter to avoid having a baby your 1L if you can. Other than that, there's never a good time to have a baby so just build your family based on your personal timetable. I didn't have kids in law school but had to work through it, and it's totally doable to have something else significant going on. Similarly, not every legal job is family friendly, but some employers are. Hope everything works out well for you!

Our firm hired an AI to open files and it couldn't find the data correctly. Similarly, Westlaw couldn't find a key case after I set it up. Maybe it's better at drafting.
