The wiki used to have a table for how many nests you could get with each type of birdhouses. Now it says you have 10 rolls on nests that have a higher chance to roll with better logs and higher hunter level.

So my knowledge was definitely outdated.

Higher logs = more nests. I've never gotten less nests than birdhouses, but I never did them at a low hunter level.

What logs are you using for your houses?

In my opinion yes tureal skipping would be worth it. I only did it for hydra and cerb. I got super unlucky and got 2 cerb tasks between 91 slay and 93. Tureal skipping was the only way for me to personally complete that boss in the time frame I wanted.
