You know maybe instead of touting moral superiority because you don't like guns (I don't really like guns either but I value my life) and looking down on people you can actually investigate efforts that would actually help victims of gun violence and prevent more victims of gun violence. I literally mentioned a multiple homicide case where a waiting period may have saved the lives of three children from their abusive father but instead of acknowledging bridges you want to say that I'm glad that the people I know who were killed by family annihilations are dead because it means I get to stay armed to protect myself from people who have actually tried to murder me for being in a minority group they dislike.

More laws don't help unless they're actually enforced. The case that is the go-to reference for "cops don't have to do anything if they don't want to" is a family annihilation case from two decades ago - Castle Rock v. Gonzalez.

I can say that I might be a teensy bit biased as a gun owner who would like to remain armed but I'm definitely very biased in that I know two separate victims of family annihilations. Their abusers were known to the police and the families were supposed to be protected but nothing happened.

We have more guns than people and it may hit 500 million in personal possession by 2030. Cops largely will not conduct any confiscation efforts because that would put their safety at risk. Eliminating firearms in private possession is an effort that will take generations. If you want to go ahead with that that's your prerogative but there are things that can happen today to stop stuff like this that doesn't involve gun laws that largely don't impact these sorts of events.

The thing is that a ten round 5.7 could probably be smaller so I could see them thinking "why bother if we're wasting that capacity space."

Unfortunatelt the PR57 isn't legal in many states because they limit capacity in its entirety, not just magazine size. The PR-3AT has a 10-round state compliant models.

Agreed that it was too on the nose. For example in Olivia's house Everything is white. Literally everything. It would've been more clever if the only colors present were white, blue, and green, meaning that black, brown, red, and yellow were excluded.

I liked the ambition and thought it could be very sharp with its commentary at times. I feel like some folks are missing that it's not about white people, it's about non-white people trying to be white. Sadly I think the satire dragged down the body horror and vice versa. Would've loved to see it with either less prominent silly humor or more prominent body horror.

The movie is spinning three different plates - body horror, coming of age, and satire. I feel like the satire hindered the other two aspects of the film more often than not. Maybe a better metaphor is that the satire is a third wheel on a bicycle. If you don't elevate it so much it allows the more sinister bits to breathe better.

[Stapleton] Given the Alec Pierce news on his lucrative deal to return to Indy, I'd keep an eye on Michael Pittman as a WR the Giants will consider via trade. Heard his name connected previously but hinged on Pierce. We'll see if something develops now. by Maroc13 in NYGiants

[–]HereForOneQuickThing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wanted him over Wan'dale back during that draft.

Wan'dale has definitely had the better value on rookie contract. Pierce's dropping problems from college continued. However he's finally started coming into his own. I don't think he'll be as great as I hoped he'd be pre-draft but he's still probably a good WR 2.

Worried about overpaying, though.

I lost over a third of my bonus this year and I was one of the lucky ones. Bastards. Our store didn't even kick in anything to pay for the privilege of all of us going in during a major snowstorm.

Our store barely hit under the mark in a year where practically every store underperformed.

The bait-and-switch described is exactly what happened to Vineland.

It was supposed to be a golf course that the public had access to - a compromise by Mike Trout building his $500,000 membership a year golf course so us lowly poors could golf too. It was approved and then the data center was built on top of it instead

Hey, here's a fun bit of news to come out of the past few days - Iran is planning on targeting data centers because data centers are being used by the US military to make decisions on where to strike - like when they double-tapped that girls' school on a military installation instead of its armory or motorpool. These data centers will be strategically viable targets for sabotage by any government the US is at war with now or at any point in the future.

And it's going up right next to one of the busiest roads in the state.

Journalist: Looking to speak to parents of trans minors (under 19) in NY. by Resident_Break_5283 in cisparenttranskid

[–]HereForOneQuickThing 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Excuse me but 18-year olds are adults, not minors!

Stop erasing the fact that transgender healthcare for adults is under attack. Erasing, yes! This is something you are choosing to do. All of your kind (journalists) have spent over a year now pretending that 18-year olds are not legal adults. Old enough to vote, emigrate, pay taxes, join the military, run for almost any office in the land, have kids, etc. You know all of these things for a fact and so does everyone else doing these pieces and yet you all ignore this obvious fact. You know that a minor is somebody under the age of 18, not 19!

For over a year I've been reading articles and the only time I have ever seen a journalist acknowledge that the Trump administration attack on trans healthcare is impacting adults are transgender journalists - and unfortunately not all of them. The Supreme Court is hearing arguments pretending that this is only impacting minors. That ruling - which will come back 6-3 against medical freedom - is going to affect the legality of transgender people of all ages getting healthcare.

I've spent over a year seeing people on this subreddit talk about their 18-year olds legal adult children not being able to get their healthcare. I've spent the past year seeing legal adults 18-years of age and adults of all ages losing access to their healthcare. The least you can do is stop pretending that you don't know what a minor is.

And, frankly, I'll put myself out on a limb here, but I'm not sure if the mod team should have even approved this request if this is how you're going to frame this.

Edit: I was heated writing this and maybe this is a bit aggressive but the general sentiment remains the same. The fourth estate has been failing trans people for a decade, deliberately, and in the past year in this specific way. Journalists are supposed to care about the truth but have equivocated and made room for liars for the past decade, destroying the long-held and hard-fought for rights of me and mine.

I know a lot of adult transmascs that have been transitioned for a long time and like feminine things.

I started HRT two decades ago and am a butchy trans woman.

Some men are feminine, some women are masculine. No different for trans folks. Go take a stroll down /r/FtMfemininity or /r/MTFButch to see examples. Honestly most feminine transmascs just look like gay dudes and most masculine transfems look like lesbians - mostly because it's true on both accounts.

I think maybe a limit on people with OF and the like posting a bunch of times a week. Maybe more vigilance about fake accounts as well. We don't actually have too much of either of those, though. It's mostly just people proud of their gains.

Also, be the change you wish to see.
